Okay, so I am writing another feature, this time on the subject of beat construction. I will be interviewing a few named artists, hopefully, and have already compiled the layout and content.

What would you like to see covered in the article?

Just drums or a complete composition? When people say 'beat' around here it usually means a whole tune, but I'm guessing you mean drums? 8)

That's a tough one as you mention you've already compiled the content and layout... :hmmm:

It would be nice to read something that goes off grid and gives tips on how to create your own individual sound. So while certain processing or sequencing procedures might be considered 'standard', it'd be cool to also hear about generating rhythms through more experimental methods.

A section on bass and how it locks into the groove would also make sense.

TBH, I have concentrated more on using some 'lateral' techniques to get the best out of your grooves but have had to start the article with the standard requirements.

The tying in and processing of the bass is a separate article I am writing on managing the low end in dance and urban music....

Sounds good.

It's a bit of a minefield but a section on warping and quantising audio would be good. I've attempted to work out how Cubase handles this multiple times but they keep changing it with every update and I give up way too easily.
