2500 works as a standalone.
With the Ren you can use the computer screen or the LCD screen on the controller to operate the MPC.
The 2500 only has the LCD screen.
For the Ren you also need a stable computer to run the MPC Ren software.
The 2500 will also need a recording device (DAW on stable computer or hardware recorder) if you want to record or mix your beats. Theoretically it's also possible to mix down and bounce a WAV file with the 2500, but it's more limited than mixing inside a DAW or on a multitrack recorder.
so with the 2500 i cant record my mix's ?? i didnt know that
listen bro i already ordered the 2500 can you make me a list for the stuff i need and what do you suggest to use ?? and some links for the important applications ( mac ) i would need to have a good result and work comfortably.
What's he's saying is that most of the time people have a hardware MPC hooked up to a Mac or PC. Often through a USB or Firewire audio interface. Some people just send the MPC's stereo mix to the DAW recording program in the computer, some people use the individual outs if their audio interface has enough inputs. (For separating a kick track from a hi hat track for example).
Usually the audio interface have a set of MIDI I/O and you attach the MPC to those. (Or get a separate USB to MIDI cable for about $30). Then you can have the MPC pads trigger stuff in the computer if you want. You can also sync the recording program to the MPC so that they play/record together once you have the cabling and settings done on the MPC and your software.
The last part of what Menco said is that you can export a WAV recording inside of the MPC and then use the USB on the MPC to drag that file over to a computer, without having to directly record to the computer.
Tell us what computer you have and any software you may already have and it will easier for us to recommend specific things.
