Lost Sequences!!!! Help Please

Will keep this short and sweet as if i talk about it too much its too heart breaking that i may never get my stuff back!
Took my flash drive out of my MPC to back up files this morning onto another pc, got home put flash drive back, can load programmes and sounds but not sequences??? currently i feel like smashing the thing up as i feel powerless to fix this random problem??? also, now have files which are vA.MID file types - what are these???

Any help, tips, advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated and well received as i am at the end of my rope with this one. Thanks. T

To be honest I'm not sure where I formated this flash card so I will look in to that. I'm sorry if my question came across wrong but what I actually meant was what does the (vA) stand for that has appeared on certain files that can't open? Normally as you know it will say .pgm or .MID etc not vA.Pgm or vA.MID since I backed up the card to my PC a handful of these non co operative files have popped up but everything else loads up fine. 1 or 2 of those files are sounds but the majority seem to be midi sequences. Is there any chance maybe my PC converted these certain files that now boast the mysterious (vA) and my 2000xl can't read them anymore?

you had filenames longer than 8 characters in the mpc, and when you connected it to a computer, it just garbled everything up.

the random names you are seeing are just glitches that were generated when it garbled the files.

ALWAYS SAVE FILENAMES UNDER 8 CHARACTERS!!!!

I read about this but that can't be for example it has happend to a sound I labelled (dhh1) yet all the others dhh2, dhh3 will load up fine.

defaults sequence name is sequenceXX - that is 10 chars.

if you just by default were saving sequences, then the pc would interpret all of them as
sequence
sequence
sequence
sequence...etc

a computer cant normally handle files named the exact same thing - so all bets are off on how it decided to 'handle' it.

as for the other sound, if you had split it into stereo files that would mean there was one file named dhh1, dhh1 L, and dhh1 R.
again the pc would have read it as dhh1, dhh1, and dhh1. ive lost files this exact way before.

not saying that is what happened (i am guessing), but the symptoms you are describing sounds like a filename issue.

the only other thing i can think of is if you are using a mac, it leaves garbled crap on the card as well - i never let my cards touch a mac.

your last comment seems to make the most sense and I think that is what the problem could of been. Luckily there were only 3 joints on this card I really wanted to salvage.
I went in on my 2000 last night and found that sequence 01 on all three files was there so I bit the bullet and started building back all the other sequences that wouldn't load and saved everything in a new folder and renamed every sequence etc. Luckily there were only a few drum sounds missing which I knew so I sampled the breaks again. This morning I am 3 things.
1, Happy that I have built all 3 tracks back
2, Wise from my silly mistakes
3, Grateful for all of your Help
