Started digging in 2002 but i was just buying re-issued cd's back then.
Got into vinyl jan 03 made alot of ill-advised purchases, after almost two years of listening/swapping and researching i seem a lot more able to find the kinds of records im looking for.

I currently have just under 70 records but its all good shit.

I have been diggin since I got back from japan. I was doing the CD thing like my man a few posts up, but diggin is much more rewarding. I have about 2 crates worth, and working from there, but I'm still trying to get my skills down on what type of records to get.

I started out learning how to scratch, did that for a few years, and have just got into beats. Had my mpc for about 2 months now, so my non-hiphop collection isn't so big, but all up (hiphop included) I have around 400.

Digging since 96 before I even had a sampler.... have well over a thousand but I can't count that high...

1991 for breaks...maybe 88 for hiphop......and I have 8 Ikea shelves, 2 rooms and a closet. I don't know how many...I'm guessing 5500-7000...but only 500 or so hiphop. I stopped buying hiphop once Illmattic dropped ('95)...so most of it is Main Source/Nucleus/Pete Rock/Just Ice/BDP/Juice Crew etc.....

I'll tell you this...it took 8 trips to move my records using an Explorer the last time I moved...I was mad sore after that ish

Seriously digging since about 1990-91 and still going.
I figure I have about 4000 pieces currently at my home.
I also have (but in storage)all the Rawkus promo stuff they sent me when I was a rep for them which is probably about another 200+ pieces.
I have sold, trashed, or traded thousands over the past 10 years as well so my amount is constantly fluctuating. I remember when I moved into my current house 7 years ago I had like 76 long u-haul boxes full and it took a moving truck to do it all. It was rediculous! Dj's used to ask me "how many crates" I had....lol I can't even answer that anymore but it's somewhere around 100+. I wouldn't recommend having this many records to anyone unless they are ready to accept a lifestyle change based entirely around your records. My records dictate where I can live, my room size, my room arrangement, my car arrangement, my garage, my living room, etc.. It's scary to think about how many someone like Cut Chemist or Biz has. I would like to trim it down to 5-600 choice pieces but I doubt it will ever happen at this rate. The top photo on the left is one of my shelves that goes from floor to ceiling 6 rows in all. I have about 6 shelves like that total. I bolted the shelves to the studs in the wall for extra stability.

And yes they are all alphabetized. Seriously.
