S900 1.1 Discs to S950 OS 1.2?

So I just hooked a s950 to replace my good ol' s900 (been cravin that time stretch!)

Well now that i got i home i got proof of what i was fearing - that my s950 wouldnt be able to load my s900 discs.

Someone told me it would but after some deep thinking i realised i had OS 1.1 on my s900 and 1.2 on the s950, thats the problem right?


SO heres my question - what can I do about this?

A. Finish all those damn beats and get em in the computer before i sell the s900.

B. Sample all my samples into the MPC60 from the s900, sample them into the s950 and save to a new disc. (Timeconsuming but doable)

C. **** around with the OS in some way, Can I install 1.2 on my s900 and still read the 1.1 discs? (Probably not...)

D. A Magical trick from someone on this Forum.

Sample the S900 sounds into the S950, or is that too obvious and simple?

Thats new to me. My 950 read s900 disks without a problem. Ok I have 1.0 OS but I can't understand why this shouldn't be able with the 1.2 too.

The only thing I can imagine is that one drive is kind of wrong justage. Like back in the days when a friend hand you a copy of the newest C64 game and you try to load it but it doesnt work


^^if thats the case you can try to use the PC as "man in the middle". The PC floppy drive might be able to read the disks and you can do a backupimage of each disk. Then write it back to a new disk that you'll use with the 950
The backupimage software is called omniflop. You should read the manual and use an older floppydrive in your PC.

s900 > s950, that was what i kinda ment, haha dont know why i wrote "sample into the mpc60", ment trigger with it.
Still would take shiitloads of time since i got a looot of beats.

Im gonna try that omniflop out!

I may try to format a disc in the s950 and then see if my s900 can read it, and then perhaps save to it.

I checked around and found that S-950 should load S-900 and S-1000 floppies. I have loaded S-1000/S-3000 floppies into my S-950 without issue, so like Peter said, maybe you have an issue elsewhere as opposed to the OS.

Yeah thats what got me thinking, i was also told the s950 would load my old discs, thats why im wondering why it wont read.

My moms an old school programmer, IT boom stuff, anyways she had a USB-floppy drive she gave me a few months ago, but it turns out you cant use USB drives with omniflop - is there anyway to get around this or am i gonna have to find a old computer?



Also the fool who sold the s950 to me didnt send it with a power cord so im gonna mod it to a regular IEC 3 pin this weekend so i dont have to use my MPC60s cord, i want both powered on of course. At the same time im gonna have a go at the floppy problems.

Wait....did you use this OS4 with your s900?? If that is the case this could be the reason why your 950 wont read the disks. As far as I remember the OS4 for the 900 use compression on the soundfiles so the disk can store more samples. programs & sounds created and saved with the OS4 can only be read with the OS4.

You gotta boot that from disc every startup right?
whats the main dif?

as you can see os4 offers some extra sampling possibilities which are availble on the s950...however i dont see why your floppies shouldnt load....

I have an s900 and my floppy drive broke recently so I had to find a way to save my sounds. I came across a program that uses the RS-232 serial port on the back. It worked perfectly transferring sounds back and forth between my s900 and my computer through a 25DB 25 Pin RS-232 to USB adapter I bought on ebay. The adapter was $6 and the program is free. I'm not 100% certain but it should also work with the s950. I was also able to transfer WAV files through the program to my s900

Cover the 2nd hole on the floppy disks?
Just a thought.

My first S950 had a non-working floppy drive so I replaced it with an Amiga one. Turns out that it is DD, but I was formatting my disks in it as HD. Now, those disks only work in my regular S950 drive by covering the 2nd hole on the floppies (I since re-formatted them into regular HD).

I can't understand why my s900 would read HD floppies and my s950 wouldnt, but now its working!

Yeah man, thanks a lot.
Now I can make a move on selling the s900, didnt wanna get rid of it before all the beats on it were safe. Now I dont need to worry anymore
