or use retrobright.
By the way does the blue screen mean it's the non overheating asr as with the purple screen variant.

No smoking in my crib, stopped that about five years ago when the UK smoking ban kicked in. I did it for my grandaughter and my mum, who dont smoke. But I enjoy the benefits of fresh air as does my gear, my clothes, my furniture, my walls, my ceilings, my visitors...

@szr, its the same ASR-10 we were PM'ing about a couple of weeks ago on eBay. What did I say? "wouldn't trust an ASR-10 in the post", but the buy-it-now price was irresistable. Dude threw in a SCSI CD-Rom, a couple of original Ensoniq CD's, 10 original Ensoniq floppies in lieu of posting delays. So got the complete package and of the the flightcase for £205 including shipping. Not bad.

Don't know about the overheating issues, but a 1997 model is one of the last to be built.

@crossings I hear that about 50. My keys show the difference environmental condition have on gear. Those replacement keys really are whiter than white in comparison.

excellent deal all things considered, might have beat you to it if I was in the uk ;)
so now i'm curious how it was packed. I'm guessing it was just put in the flightcase....
Last time I got a synth posted that was about the same weight, I asked the seller to stick bubblewrap around the synth then put that in the flightcase... then put the flightcase into a box with cushioning/air pockets inside.... thats about the only way i'd trust something like that though the post.... although in this case I would have taken the gamble too. lucky that it wasnt bashed around more

Correct, one of the cheaper flightcases lined with fur type material. It had some foam attached above the keybed, but this didnt protect the front of the keys from making contact with the case. Some thick bubblewrap in that area would have made a difference. The flightcase was just taped at each end, it was obvious what was inside lol.

Luckily there was no other damage to the machine. Courier was Parcel2Go

I have formatted an external SCSI drive using the ASR-10 and at the end of formatting it had the option of copying the OS to the formatted drive. I chose to do so. However, when I attach the scsi drive ad turn the ASR on it recognises the scsi drive but says there is no OS so I have to insert the OS floppy for the ASR to boot.

Any ideas or ways I can get the OS onto the external drive so I can boot from it ?

hey don't know if anyone can help with this problem please?

basically when ever i try to cut up my wavesamples it gives me the 'layer edit not allowed' display

if i load up the wave, i can edit its start and stop points fine
if i copy this wave and then edit the new wave, it will give me the not allowed display on the original wave and will change LYR = 2R WS = ALL as opposed to LYR = 1L WS = 1

this pattern will repeat for as many as i copy the newest one can be edited all previous ones can't

if i then delete all the new waves and am only left with the original it will still say not allowed

i am making sure the correct layer and wavesample are selected each time.

I can still change the pitch etc..just not anything to do with the wave

anyone got an idea?

********

sorry i worked it out

if anyone gets this problem its because you created an extra layer, select said layer and delete it

Some trivia I stumbled upon browsing GS regarding the 1st Wu-Tang album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Posted by Carlos Bess who was their recording engineer at the time.

This is a list of all the gear that I used to record and mix the first wu-tang album.

Console

Peavey Production Series 2400 With Megamix Automation (Run with a Mac SE-30)

Audio Recorders.

Ampex MM1200 24 track - Originally own by Prince. "Purple Rain" album was recorded with this machine.

The majority of the record was recorded on 2" tape except "Protect your Neck" which was record on a Tascam MS16 16 track 1" reel with Without Dolby NR

Sony APR5003 2 track 1/4" with SMPTE
Tascam DA-30 DAT Recorder
Tascam 244 portastudio
4 track was used to bounce final mixes from DAT to highspeed 4 track Cassette with Maxell MX 60 Crome Cassettes.

Roland RE-30

The only microphone that was used was an AKG-C414 EB

At the time RZa used an SP-1200, EPS 16 Plus then Graduated to an ASR-10. We would lockup the units to tape using a Roland SBX-80

The Following machines were used for the following Tracks

1 Bring da Ruckus - EPS16+
2 Shame on a ***** - ASR10
3 Clan in da Front - ASR10
4 Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber - ASR10
5 Can It Be All So Simple/Intermission ASR10 /Sp-1200 for Intermission
6 Da Mystery of Chessboxin' ASR 10
7 Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit - EPS16+
8 C.R.E.A.M. EPS16+
9 Method Man SP1200
10 Protect Ya Neck EPS16+
11 Tearz -EPS16+
12 Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber, Pt. 2 ASR 10 [color=DarkRed]( I provided the live Drums )

Most vocal Performaces were flown in using Akai -S-1000 Stereo Sampler. We would sample a lead vocal on the left with a Snare or kik on the right for reference then fly in the verses in their places.

Peace, Carlos "C12" Bess

How do change the pitch of a sample.....I have only found this one way

Sample sound and assign it to a key (eg C3)
Then set the range to be something like E4-E4 or whatever takes your fancy
So now to adjust the pitch of the sample (by semitones not fine increments), you need to go back to the page where you originally set the root key and change this to another key (higher or lower depening on what way you want to tune the sample)

Is this the only way to change the pitch/tune a sample or is there a faster way ?
By 4th pyramid Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:09 am
yes, just the change root key (how is this not fast/easy enough?)
the fastest way would be to just play the sample at a different pitch on the keyboard after sampling.

don't really understand why so many people are confused with the asr10/eps
for me, it's the easiest and fastest interface of any sampler i know

.zip or Compact Flash?

Turn the Attatched SCSI Drive on first then the ASR. Reformat if it's still not working.

How to save your beat correctly? I have 2 instruments (chopped beat and chopped sample) and 1 sequence
Im saving instruments to formatted floppy, then saving all seq+song and then saving bank. But when i load there is no seqence in program.
By 4th pyramid Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:27 pm
should be
but if you only made a sequence and no song(edit song steps) the "** song **" page in the sequencer is empty and won't play anything if you press play
if you select the sequence in the sequencingwindow it should play
if all however fails, just save the sequence alone and load it manually after loading the bank
