Sampling from within DAW as VSTi...WTF?

Ok...I must be retarded...I've tried to sample from within cubase with the Ren and I get no signal whatsover. Doesn't the Ren automatically monitor whatever the default main converters inputs are? ie inputs 1/2 of a lynx aurora...How can this thing be released with not being able to sample from within a daw? Even the Ren's hardware inputs seem to be disabled when it's instantiated as a plug. Truly a WTF moment....truly.

Probably because the inputs are being used by Cubase.

Try this....

Insert the MPC Ren VST on an instrument track inside Cubase. That instrument track should probably have an audio input (at least Pro Tools does). Set the audio input to a stereo buss or aux if applicable. Then set the output to what ever you are trying to sample to that stereo buss or aux.

This also applies to using the Ren's analog or digital inputs. If your DAW is configured properly, you will see the Ren's inputs 1-2 (analog) and 3-4 (digital) as I/O options. So if you want to use the Ren as a plugin and sample from it's inputs, you will have to use the method described above. The difference is that you will set the Ren's instrument track audio input to 1-2 or 3-4. Then you can record from the Ren's analog or digital inputs.

TOTAL NO GO! ARrrrrrrrgghhhh! C 6.5 and N5 don't allow Instrument tracks to have inputs. So there's no way of routing any signal to the vsti!!! ahhh man this sucks big donkey d*ck! lmao!

Deja Vu. We discussed this in a thread a month or so ago. We didn't find a solution for the Ren plugin to record unless that DAW allowed audio to be routed to plugins instrument tracks. Pro Tools 10 does.

I thought Cubase was just as flexible. Is there a way to add an Insert to an instrument track in Cubase and route audio to it?

I can use ,lets say, bpmsampler vsti from motu which allows audio to be passed to the their BPM Vsti via an insert BUT cubase will not in turn pass the resulting output of the bpmsampler to the Ren's input in this manner unfortunately. There's no code directing the Insert's resulting output to the Ren's input. PT HD is very flexible in this regard. Unfortunately Cubase/Nuendo is not. In Ableton live I'm able to create an audio track..set the input to my preamp and set the resulting output to 1-Mpc which is the Ren's input. The audio track when in auto monitoring results in a conduit straight to the Ren's sample input. This is soooo freakin' frustrating. Jah...can you also please test something out if you get a chance. I noticed a bit of a narrower stereo width with the ren in comparison to when i'm using fxpansion's guru or geist. Same samples..same sequence. narrower stereo spread and depth. I thought I was nuts. I tried the various vintage modes and with that off or on...still got the same wierdness. I mean it's not bad mind you but its noticeable.

So ok for Pro Tools and Live but not Nuendo/Cubase. Hmmm.

So there is no way to get the 1-MPC to show up in Cubase? Not even by setting up Studio Connections?

I'll look into the other issue as I am working. Nothing has stood out so far.

no..no 1-mpc for the ren in C6.5/N5 at all. This basically shelves my ren as i'm in the process of another remix project. I don't get this at all...

Damn, wish I had an answer for you, I'm a big fan. You have started a many of parties for me, when I DJ.

geist has a nice solution for this: they have a dedicated plugin for sampling/routing audio into it

A simple solution would be just that...a plug that guarantees routing to the ren's input on whatever daw your heart ever desires. Geist's spitter is great for that. I use Geist mostly now and Guru before it. I dig the sound of fxpansion plugs. Depth perception and their filters are KILLER. They sound fantastic. It's why i complained a bit about the depth perception and spread in the Ren. Ren has amazing potential...and i'm chomping at the bit. C'MON AKAI!!
