program missing/creation bugs?

These happening to anyone else? - (2xl, 1k)

First problem: Say, there's a MIDI track, and you don't want a program assigned to it. You set it to "OFF", and there, it's good.

But after doing "Save all memory 2", and the next time it's loaded, all those "OFF" programs are shown as "OFF?" as if it's specifying a nonexistent program.
This wouldn't be a problem, except for the times when it tries to fix the issue by switching to an arbitrary program.


Second problem: on new tracks (maybe also on tracks experiencing the above glitch too) it will create programs out of nowhere. So after making a few new tracks, it will have made "Program01" through "Program05" or whatever. Clutters things up. But if there was already a program called "Program01", it might also still make another one with the same name. I've had that happen and I didn't notice, so the next time I did "Save entire memory", it only saved the bogus version, and I lost the entire program (samples were still there, thankfully), because it didn't actually save the original version. (I now give all of my programs custom names. I'm not a big "name everything" guy, I'll often have "Track01" and whatnot)


Did I screw up the autoload or something? I didn't post this in the bug section because I figured it might have been my error somewhere.

Never had it make programs other than "ProgramXX" though.


Maybe this should be moved to the bugs subforum, since it seems I'm not the only one with the problem, so it probably isn't just user error?

it's not really a bug, exactly. what happens is if you move to a track with no program assigned, the os will load a program onto it. it's not arbitrary. it should be the first program in the program list.

this will happen anytime you make the track active. for example: if you are scrolling thru tracks and land on one of the blank ones in the MAIN screen, or if you choose an empty track as the active one in the TRACK MUTE screen.

i think jj added it for convenience but i agree that it is annoying. i would definitely be in favor of requesting this 'feature' gets removed.

Well, it would be nice if it were always the first program on the list. But it isn't, which is why it's annoying.

I've now started custom naming all my programs, and I made an empty program called "OFF!", and I haven't had the problem.

So for now, I'll just stay away from the built-in program OFF selection.

Bumping this thread, because I'm still experiencing the glitch.


I'm bumping it now because I recently, for organization's sake:
-Backed up my memory card
-Reformatted it in the MPC
-Restored the MPC to defaults (power on + erase button)
-Manually reloaded everything I wanted onto the MPC except for the autoload folder. (there is no autoload folder currently on it, so it boots to the default configuration)
-From a blank slate (i.e. from a power on) manually loaded just the programs, samples, and sequences I needed for my current project (i.e. no .PRJ files, or AllSeq&Song files, just loading the individual sequences from the .ALL file into the sequences. Gave me a chance to reorganize all the sequences, too)
-Saved Entire-Memory-1 (I'm not using patterns) to a new folder

FYI, the programs I currently have in this song I'm working on, in order, are called "MAIN" and "OFF!" (as explained earlier, this is an empty program I use for MIDI tracks instead of the built-in OFF function).

And it still randomly (at least seemingly randomly, I haven't tracked down a pattern to the bug yet) creates new programs called "Program01" and "Program02". Just now I was scrolling to a track I had recently deleted, and the program was listed as "Program03?", a nonexistent program.

ugh... Just an annoying bug...


Edit: I made a "MAIN2" program for some other part of the song. And now, there's a "MAIN3". goddammit. I can't tell when it's making these.
