Not a huge request, but one that has certainly been annoying me lately.
I'll try my best to explain it........

Say i have a track of recorded events that all hit on the first note of each bar (1.1.00, 2.1.00, 3.1.00 etc) using Timing Correction and shift notes, if i want all of these to be a bit earlier i would set say -3 in Shift Notes but in doing so it NEVER moves the first event.

So if i moved the notes 1.1.00 and 2.1.00 in a two bar loop to be earlier it should come out as 2.4.94 and 1.4.94.......what i actually get is 1.1.00 and 1.4.94

Is there a way to get the Step Sequencer to automatically do this rather than have to manually move that first event?

Not a biggie if not, just something that i thought would be an improvement to the workflow.

wtf, you mean you want to shift a note OUTSIDE of the sequence BEFORE 1:00:00
Get off the bong.
Come on think about it. Man you smoking some hardcore shit over there in WA, I know its all decriminalised there, but still put it down.

How about a simple illustration for you > imagine, you are shifting the other way. we will shift a note (at the END of the bar) 3 forward, now what happens to notes that go beyond 2:4:95 ?
they go to next bar. But no its not a 3 bar loop, but a 2 bar loop that you are making, so it is out side into the next bar 3. What is before 1:1:00? Nothing, unless you put in a bar.
So where the note gonna go?? The magic fairy universe of the bong? This question gets asked and it always amazes me, but its fun to explain the really obvious.

The events could just wrap around, or be discarded. Do you really need to have a rant about bongs and sound so incredulous over a straightforward question?

There is always room for something before the start of the bar. EMU command stations place PC messages before the 1. They play the PCs first, before starting the bar (so the 1 is actually delayed just a little) but when the bar loops around, it loops to exactly the 1 and the PCs are not resent. This is an elegant solution and I assume the MPC does the same behind the scenes with the PC msg on main screen.. Also, where do you think a count in comes from, the magic fairy bong? Just either answer peoples questions or be quiet, there is no need to a) explain how wrong other peoples use of the machine is, and b) invoke totally irrelevant things such as dugs and fairys.

OP: Instead of moving some notes (including the first) earlier, have you considered moving everything ELSE +3 later instead? The result will sound the same, and your sequence will begin at 1 like the mpc expects. You would need an empty bar at the end to move the last note into is all. Or discard it, whichever is relevant for you.

:-x awwwwww, innovine hates me. But loves to tell me what to do and say. I love it, its very funny, and innovine is always so stern. If anything I think peeping tom has to pass it to innovine, as he needs it to chill out a bit and maybe get some humour. You know, instead of being a dour sad puss.

I actually would not recommend innovines work around as every thing will be out of time, (when tracking or when mixing with other stuff) so it is best to make a bar lead in, just like a drummer does for count in. I wasnt gonna say actually as I did not wanna get old grumpy pants any more annoyed, but I am sure you would see that for yourself peepintom.

And the count in is not any part of any sequence, it is the count in. I cant go there ......
some one?

i would love if the approach to seq start/ends was more circular
so that moving/nudging notes at the start/end of a sequence could easily be pushed to the beginning/end depending on reference

This is a good request. I often have to modify loops to comply with a 1.1.00 start-point.

what i was trying to explain! i guess using shift notes wasnt the best approach, and Bliprock i had a good chuckle at your first rant. :-D

This is actually supported in many sequencers. Traktor allows you to place the 1 at an arbitrary point in the sound file, commonly used on the first downbeat. Pretty useful for DJs dealing with long intros before a drop. Ableton Live allows this on the individual clips; you can place the 1 warp marker wherever you want. Bars which come before it are simply numbered negatively. I guess you didn't remain in school long enough to learn about numbers which come before 1.

yeh not really the same effect. was more for quick ideas, i throw a kick maybe a tad earlier than a sample, but if im being quick i'll quantise it all and then use the shift note function to move certain elements in and out of place to each other., problem is the sequencer isnt so circular as Nym stated, and the shifted note at the 1.1.00 (which in an ideal world, if moved "backwards" would change to 2.4.95) doesnt roll back to the nearest earlier part of the bar.

Now i can see where blips coming from (yeh, notes before 1.1.00 - dude thinks its funny) but if its a 2 bar loop, the nearest event to hit before 1.1.00 is 2.4.95, its not that **** hard to comprehend - i can even draw you a picture if you like.

Exactly. You got it... I mean I dig the idea it might work circular, but still there is nothing before the start. Its being technical about it, but any one can add a bar led in fill swoosh riser what ever, thats normal. You think that is bar 1 when people drop stuff but it is bar 2 and everything else is a bar late, but your mind is tricked in thinking that its all fine. Specially the more modern stuff I notice is very like that, all those bloody risers and drops means tricky arranging tricks. Get them right and you are rocking. It is about being able to program like a drummer, or dj, and understanding complex song structure and arranging...
