Hello, i have a question to the sound transfer from the mpc to my macbook.
I think about buying a zip drive. Is it correct that i could save samples on it from my mac which i can use after that with the mpc? And can I also transfer beats i saved on the zip disk from the mpc to my mac? If so would it be a loss of quality because i dont have an audio interface? And a last question :D is it then possibly to connect the zip drive with an audio interface and this with my mac? I dont need the type of adapters or anything I just want to know in general if its possible this way. :)

Sry for language mistakes and the questions, but i'm really new with the audio transfer from the mpc to a pc :)

Thanks!

Putting sounds on zips isn't about any loss in quality. You are simply copying and transferring data, and the data remains the same.

If you have an MPC with a zip, I'm guessing you do or plan to buy one (60/3000/2000/2000XL?) you can get a USB zip drive for a computer. You would format the discs on the MPC. Then copy sounds from the computer ( WAV 16 bit/44.1khz) using the external zip.

Tracking out the sounds, the actual recording of the MPC's output is where an audio interface comes into play.

If you have an MPC with zips look into upgrading it with a CF flash card reader. Much more modern, reliable and convenient and more storage generally.

Thanks for your answer. :)

depends on the mpc.

a nukai model (1k, 2.5k, 5k, maybe 500) usually have a 'resample' option where you convert your 'beat' to a wave file, then you can drag that onto the computer.

but if you are talking about zips, then no, no mpc that would use a zip (please dont use zips) has this function. you have to actually record the audio into a recording program.

if you want drag and drop, get a newer mpc like 1k or 2.5k

Oh, i thought that i wrote that i have a 2000xl :)

Then i will look for an audio interface and the CF flash card reader and post it here, would be nice if you could check then if it fits. :)

Thanks.

edit: ok I think i will try this method. /viewtopic.php?f=1&t=109501&hilit=card+reader
sounds easy, seems to works and is especially cheap.

Your pasted link is incomplete, but if it's the thread I think it's probably an Addonics IDE CF card drive. Hopefully one that is hot swappable so you can change cards while the machine is on. 2GB cards format at 1GB on MPC 2000XL 1.20 OS, that's the limit.

I think you may need to drill a mounting hole in the MPC and/or the card reader to install it.

Does this one work? ^^

Yeah, those ones aren't hot-swappable, you have to power down to swap CF cards. It's a cheap fix but you likely have to drill your own mount, and I'm not sure the cable that attaches it won't need some modification.

That and other threads on cheap CF readers usually have step by step on how to do the mod for cheap if you are willing to drill and maybe mod the cable.

I'll link to the hot-swappable one when I find it.

I think i am going to buy this one for the beginning, i mean, if i unterstood: without hot swappable i have to save my progress first on the flash card and then power the mpc down for choosing other sounds from the pc or something. This is ok for me.

Anyways, if you find the link, i would be happy about it. :)

Thanks.

Addonics hot swappable is the key phrase to look for. It was posted in another thread in the last week.

Ok, finally my stuff arrived, but the IDE to CF adapter doesn't fit to the IDE cable which fits with the internal Atapi/IDE connection.

I bought this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/220808312966?ssP ... 577wt_1048

The number of pins is 40 and actually has to fit so I don't see the bug???

Thanks for help!

Aaarrgghhh.. I could solve my latest problem, the cable fits now, thanks. But as I tried to boot my MPC the only thing that happens is a white screen appears and all the LEDs are on. Any assumptions for this? Would be very thankful.

Again I'm sorry I'm not of more help here. Here's a link to a another active thread that has posters that are more knowledgeable than me on this topic.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=158975

The thread touches on the 2 different OS's for the Xl 1.14 and 1.20. 1.20 is the one that is usually used for an IDE CF Reader. Towards the last page of the thread I believe the OP ended up with a similar situation with the LEDS and a blank screen at bootup although his issues seemed to be a little more erratic, as he was able to get it to boot a few times but then it locked up.

Those are courtesy of mr debauch and Juke. So maybe test mode is your next move. Also, and I apologize for neglecting to mention the OS differences. Maybe your machine is on OS 1.14, and the CF wants 1.20. I'm afraid you may have to remove the CF, drop in a zip drive and install the 1.20 from there and then re-install the CF. It was awhile ago but I think I made that mistake and had to put the zip back in the install 1.20 OS.

Again apologies if my forgetting to mention stuff or my lack of thorough knowledge on this has made this tougher for you. Hopefully it's mostly on the right track and you can pinpoint the issue from the info in the other thread and maybe run a search for "2000XL+CF Reader". I think all the info you need is in the archives here but the threads may be many years old so the search is key. If you find the search function here problematic (it can show a lot of hits to weed through at times) just put the phrase in Google and add "forums" to the keywords, google will show the top matches. Sometimes I find that easier.

I wish you luck in getting this squared away soon. :)
