I own an Akai DPS 16 for the past 15 or so years with absolutely no problems until recently. I moved my gear to another room and did not drop it or anything unusual, but i went to plug in the power cord and left it on for a few hours without any other cables to it. I came back in the room later that day and the smell of a burnt circuit board filled the room. I searched for what that familiar smell was and saw the screen to the DPS with nothing but lines in it and i smelt the back it was strong so i unplugged it. Tried early this morning, hoping it would cool down and back to normal with no hope. Need to know if it's just the screen or something else inside the unit burn out. I have had many sessions in the past for up to 12 hours with no issues, don't know why being plugged in and on for about 4 hours did this???(fuse maybe)???? :(

yeah you might want to open it up and see if possibly something fell loose and created a short... or maybe it is dust...

try removing internal connectors, cables, etc.. and re-seating those to establish a new contact because they can shake loose over time.

check for fuses... see if any are burned... maybe if you have a multi meter you can take a quick test or maybe just replace them since fuses are cheap.

hopefully you can get it working again.

Good luck. And in the (I hope unlikely) event that it can't be repaired you could get a fair price for just the LCD if it is intact and sell it to someone willing to modify the cable for use in a 2000XL.

What they already said.

But sadly nothing lasts forever and 15 years is a good run for any piece of hardware. If you dont get it fixed after selling the screen you can flog the fadercaps to MPC60 and MPC3000 owners who are missing theirs. Replacements are hard to find and their are plenty of these models missing a cap.

Hopefully it'll work out for you.

Got the chance to open the unit and low and behold, the flat wire cable has burnt out from the motherboard to the screen. hopefully i can order another flat wire and replace it, don't know if from the moving the wire came loose and made contact with each other or not, just middle wires were burnt out. Any help, let me know. code on wires are (E66085 AWM 2896 80C VW-1 Band S) Counted the pins =12. Tried Google but no luck on a 12 pin

it would be nice to know before investing too much time... if anything else got ruined (the screen for example)

Sounds like someone is looking for a screen. lol. Sure i can fix it, looked a little more closely and i just need to order a flatwire connector, solder it in and splice the flatwire.

I have Akai DPS 16 while recording vocal on track 2 w/ backing track on 1, as I've done for years, it stopped, I started again last 5 minutes stopped again. Now wont it record. Record select will be on (track2) I get audio but when I hit play and record, record button wont work. If I hit just play w/ record select on track 2, track 1 will play but no audio on track 2 though it registers on input screen...can anyone Help..love this machine...Thanks
