when i try to program the samples to the pads

the samples wont play. all the pads work to go to the different modes and the sample will play when im in the trim mode but when i try to program samples to the pads the samples wont play. i followed the manual i have but it wont work. it says to "adjust the volume to the desired level while checking the level by hitting pad" and i have the level at 100 but when i hit the pad no sound comes out. could there be a serious problem with my mpc 1000?
If youre going to tell me to read the manual can you at least refer me to a chapter or something because i am reading the manual and ive been trying to get this to work for the past couple days.

There is a few things to check. The volume is the GPE volume, PAD + 7
Velocity might not be high enough, so turn on FULL LEVEL
Check mixer output as well
check output assign for sample
Check filters are off, then turn them back on
If you can hear the samples in trim mode then you need to got to program window and check all that as it seems the best place to start.

-velocity is at full level
-mixer output is full level
-output assignment like the pan? i tried the pan all left all right and in the middle for both mono and stereo samples
-filters are already off and when i turn them on still nothing happens

PROBLEM IS FIXED******************

talked to someone from akai he set up a phone call walk through and he discovered that the owner before me saved something to a folder on the internal memory so he told me how to reset it to the factory settings and that worked.
