Any of you guys use templates on your mp's

So i just recently got into using the 2000xl and got tired real quick of always entering names for tracks (ie Hi-Hat, Snare etc) so I saved a sequence with no sounds just track names and my usual settings. Same for a program that goes into chromatic order like a keyboard instead of random notes. Any of you more experience users out there do the same and if so share some of your ideas. Anything that saves time on naming and shit is more time spent making beats

If you can nail a consistent workflow, DO IT!!!

You could use a template for internal sampler/ programming and another for external midi/ VSTi's which may or may not be in chromatic order. Templates make a lot of sense and save a lot of time. Think about the parameters Lampdog pointed out.

Yeah definitely coming from a software stand point it really became a no brainer for me. Gonna look more into midi soon as i am done rearranging my spot. Right now computer is in other room and no hardware synth/romplers for the moment. Lamp when you mention mixer settings are you talking about the mixer in the mp? and if so curious as to what you tend to save as defaults.

No, I'm pretty much unpredictable. I tried making templates but end up tweaking them every time. What I did for one beat will never work for another. But I do have a good memory for parameters and stuff, I always remember the numbers and sweet spots... but can't remember where I left my wallet or keys

No templates needed for my mpc2500, but I have a drum program template disk for my S950 which saves a fair amount of time.

In JJOS for the 2500/1000 you used to be able to name each of your MIDI out channels making it easy to recall what external MIDI instruments you used for every track in each sequence in all your projects. JJ took that functionality out a while ago!!!! Crazy. That was an amazingly useful, professional, feature and I miss it incredibly badly!!!!

I know you can drop new samples into them, but what is the point of that when you can just create a new program since its already empty? Are there eq settings or something in the empty program?

The MPC 4000 takes a little bit more setting up than other MPCs from a completely blank project, so it makes sense to create a template or autoload project.

For example, you need to create a multi, then add parts, then create programs and assign them to parts. There's added flexibility but it seems slightly convoluted coming from other MPCs.

I'm relatively new to the 4K, so my autoload template is fairly basic but it gets the job done. It's just 4 programs with everything assigned to parts - Drums, Music Elements, Bass and a Keygroup Program. I will no doubt add to it and refine things as I work out exactly what will be a benefit to my workflow. At this stage I don't autoload my favourite sounds, but it's definitely a consideration as the 4K rocks a shit load of ram.

Parameters, its been spelled out earlier in the thread. A template is a starting point which your adapt on a per project basis, like synth presets. Why start from scratch every single time...
