Guitar and MPC 2000 XL

Hello!

I do play guitar, and want to use it in my beats. The way I am doing it now is to sample the guitar, and chop it up on the MPC. But I want to play guitar while recording on my MPC, not sample it. I want to hear my drums playing, and play on them while recording, if you know what I mean. I know i can play a MIDI-controller while recording but that is a MIDI-signal...

So how can I record ANALOG signal while recording?

This video is of a mpc 1000, is it not possible to do the same on the 2K XL? If not, what is it the mpc 1000 have, that the mpc 2KXL dont have?

no its not possible on an xl.

with jjos, the 1000/2500 bring a thousand things no other mpc can do.

im also not sure that is not the kp3 doing the looping. it is designed for that.

The 1000 was made like 15 years after the xl, there's a shitload it does that the xl cant. The 1000 is by all means, a modern machine. The xl is a legacy, you shouldn't buy an xl with the idea of it competing with modern technology... You'll always be dissapointed.

I'd only recommend getting the xl, if a legacy workflow is what your after. Read about it, try making music on the computer with the limitations of the xl and see if that's something that works for you.

Exactly. If you work well with the limitations but would like to add to it using real instruments etc you can always link your mpc to a DAW and record into that. The older mpc's are a lot more of a process to making beats compared to new equipement that you turn on and have a millions different directions you can go in.

Also, in that video, the kp3 is definitely doing the looping.

That's the flashing at the beginning, "priming" the looper, then it starts recording when he hits the first button.

sync your mpc with your daw and record into the daw...

just track out ur beat to ur daw

and record ur guitar straight into ur daw over ur beat

But will it then work to record my guitar directly on a mpc 1000 while the drums are playing?

you can either track out the xl to your daw then record guitar over it in your daw, or let the mpc play the parts while you recording your guitar in daw and then sync it up once the xl is tracked out
