mv 8000/8800

I've got the MV8000 and it's almost like having a DAW in a box. I'm actually looking to sell mine at the moment as I don't really have the room for it, and and could use the cash. I'd recommend to anyone though, as it's fun being able to accomplish a lot of what a DAW could accomplish without touch a computer. Obviously a computer can do things the MV couldn't ever do, but after looking at a computer screen all day at work it's nice to be able to get away from that and still do some music. I like the 'sound' of it, too. In my opinion it colors the sound slightly, even with no effects on. I could play back the same snare in Live and then play it back on the MV and the MV has a slightly different tone. Hard to explain, and maybe it's just me, but it's nice. The workflow is different for sure but you can do some powerful editing on it.

I had the MV8800 for a few months paid £300 for it. Couldn't adjust to the OS and the workflow having come up on Akai samplers, but it was certainly an interesting box of tricks. Sold it for £600 and never looked back. Guess I became Akaicentric...

this is exactly what i dont want to happen to me, i keep thinking in the back of my head, **** what if i dont like this **** when i finally get one. i am keeping the faith though, it looks so dope, ill just have to adjust to the workflow.

That is the key right there.
I came from making beats on 808s & 909s and then got a 2000XL... I hated the workflow then got used to it. Got an ASR-10... Hated the workflow then got used to it. The same goes for my MV and Mac laptop when I first got them too. It just takes time to learn.

yeah i used to hate the mpc workflow too, but now i love it.

I know you have the 8000 but on the 8800, its a dedicated button to switch from LCD to VGA. Thats the difference between the 8000 and the 8800, a few dedicated buttons like Pattern and Song and the color screen, thats about it.

The LCD/VGA button isnt dedicated it's just labeled. You still have to SHIFT+EXIT.

The 8800 has a lot of upgrades to OS that seem small until you get into a sesion like - multiple select on any browser screens (smple MGR, Import,etc.) , zero cross,real time pattern play in song mode, exportable MFX patches. Once you get used to them you don't want to give them up.

My fave- The 8800 also ALL Mark so you can selects everything while doing it again unmarks everything.

and in piano roll or drum program step sequencer section wouldn't the shift+arrows zoom in and out? also shift+stop stops long playing samples and everything?

Shift+stop is indeed a lifesaver especially with Audio Phrases.

I gotta take the time to take out my MV again and finish the repairs/cleaning I started months back... mine is partially out of commission at the moment...

exactly what I did, bought 8800, transffered output expansion n sold the 8000

my gripe with the mv besides slow load/save times is no cursor when chopping samples so you gotta go by ear as Juke mentioned

but like IllG said while it's loading/saving I go to the garage to smoke a bowl, no problem there

I admit it's been a while since I was on my mv... but I dont remember the no cursor while chopping on the 8000.... maybe it's camouflaged into the background of that colour screen!

as for loading... well, just dont do it... if the projects are small.... do 20 songs in a project. load the one time... wait for saves in between... etc. I mean I never did that, but it would be possible I think...
