Naming tracks and sequences on hardware.

Hi all,

I was wondering if I'm the only one that feels like there should be a way to name tracks and sequences directly on the hardware.

I'm really used to work only on the hardware because of my MPC 1000.

Now that I'm on the Renaissance, I obviously have a tendency to work with the same workflow I'm used to (do everything on the hardware).

What frustrates me though, is every time I need to name a track or a sequence, I have to break my workflow and go on the software... Could seem picky (and yes, typing on a keyboard is faster than with pads), but when you are concentrated on the hardware and on that little screen, having to switch on the software for naming things all the time is really annoying and breaks the concentration and the workflow...

In my opinion, as much as possible should be accessible from the hardware, including being able to name stuff.

Another slight annoyance is when entering BPM's direct from the hardware keypad. If I want to enter a BPM of 95.5, on older units, I'd just press 955 and enter. The decimal was placed accordingly. On the Ren you have to enter 95 first, then move the cursor after the decimal and then enter 5. I prefer the older method.. less key presses!

That's definitely annoying.

I'm not against being able to name things from the hardware at all. That's cool. But i would still use the keyboard on my computer. It definitely tackles typing much faster.

I think it would be awesome to activate the naming from the hardware, ex. Hit window while you're in sequence and there you can copy etc, plus a RENAME there after hiting rename I can enter the xit with my keyboard, avoiding mouse clicking.

It doesn't exist on the hardware.


I feel like someone needs to make an official list of things available on previous MPC's that is not available on the MPC ren.
I'd do it in some spare time coming up, but I mainly know the 2000xl. Some of you all know all of the MPCs.

Most of whatever is in this list should also probably be some of the most important feature requests.

Vsts aside if they just got this done it would amazing, that's pretty much what people
expected as standard just the basics.

Yeah It kills the flow to have to stop and move a mouse over a track name. I like the idea of going to the track name on the hardware, highlighting it, and then being able to type the name on the computer keyboard. It's not the typing that slows the flow, it's having to find the cursor and put it on the track.

And directly entering a tempo is a pain. I never work at uneven numbers like 95.5, 95.2 etc.

Agreed, it Should be an applet "Rename", like "clear","copy", while pressing the Windows buttons for both, Tracks and Sequences.

Add a new program on the hardware is missing and really kiddin... lol... They Should use the Windows buttons to when on the main screen and highlighting the program.

I have something to contribute for when you create a new sample, sequence, track, chop or whatever. It's pretty simple:

Everytime the window with the name field pops up, the name should be highlighted by default!! That way, i can just type in the new name and i don't have to grab my mouse, move the cursor to the window and click it.

What do you think?? It's something very very simple, but imho, it definitely enhances the workflow!

this is funny yall wish to be able to name things from teh hardware, while I wish I was able to do it on mpc2500 from computer keybaord like on mpc 4000

what's exactly teh benefit of doing long way and typing up name letter for letter from hardware as opposed to using computer keyboard and doing the same task in 2 seconds
