Backlight very dim

The backlight on my 500 is very dim. It really doesn't make a difference if it's turned on or off. I've messed with the contrast screw and it didn't help. Does anyone know if replacing the screen assembly would fix that? The assembly is only 33 dollars, but it's not returnable. Akai just wants me to send it away to be fixed, and I'm not going to do that if replacing the screen will fix it.

Looking at the service manual for the MPC500 (http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=143379), it appears the LCD assembly is a single piece.

I ended up ordering one off eBay from VST service for $39 shipped. I'll let ya'll know if it solves the problem.

I see from your thread about the MIDI issue that you have installed your new LCD assembly. Does it work?

Actually I haven't installed it yet. It supposed to arrive in the mail today. I did take it all apart the other day to see if there was any visible issues with the cables, etc. I'll let you know when I get it installed, though. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

hey the new screen assembly works great. not sure what happened to the old one, but whatever. the new one is almost too bright...

mine flickers, the blue backlight gets dim then bright does this every so ofter, mostly stays dim, i try just keeping it off, i may change mine out too
