MPC60 I and ASQ-10 Backlight

Is MPC60 MKI have the same Backlight Part as ASQ10?

Can someone who has replaced an ASQ-10 backlight confirm this before I pull the trigger. Also be interested to know about the install process, and whether soldering is required. I might be restoring one pretty soon so any info appreciated.

Are you buying that clear sheet on eBay? You can always ask the seller that sells the 60 sheet on eBay. I'm pretty sure the seller knows.

Matt (saint_baz) has confirmed the ASQ10 backlight is identical to that of the original MPC60 MK1, so I've ordered one from him. Anything different from the MPC60 install I should be aware of?

Also how impossible is it to replace the transport [STOP] button and other parts?

For my 60 II it looked like a clear sheet of plastic. I also bought mine from Matt. I was referring to the foil then

Those buttons on the ASQ are giant! If they are broken, you may have better luck gluing them. If the text is worn off, a local print shop with a pad printer may be able to put text back on for you.

Indeed they are, but I never realised this having only seen photos online. In my mind they appeared the same size as the MPC60/3000 buttons, which they clearly are not. But then the ASQ10 itself is chunkier than I'd imagined it too be.

The button doesnt appear to be broken, I'll need to take a closer look at it to see what can be done. A dedicated ASQ10 thread with specific info would have been helpful, there is more to it than just being 'the sequencer section of the MPC60' or 'the best hardware sequencer ever'. But you wont find out until you get one and read the manual. Reading the manual I've found out some stuff which I have never seen stated anywhere.

Not sure how many ASQ10 owners are here, but she deserves a thread of her own.

More stuff I didn't know as an MPC60 owner. I suppose its nothing new to someone with 3 ASQ10's. Just stuff that's not well documented outside the manual.

The size of the buttons is a good example for someone who's never seen an ASQ10 in person. Once I've had time to mess with it ill post 'more' and 'stuff'.

Me interested, may be more stuff I have not noticed.

On thing I noticed when testing the MPC-SCSI card in the ASQ10, the case design is a lot more low profile, less circuit boards inside due to no sampling engine and audio I/O, what is there are side by side, with the underside of the control panel closing right down on it.

I am having some re-laid-out/smaller MPC-SCSI pcbs made up, to make it easier to squeeze into the limited available space inside the ASQ10.

i have an ASQ. but i cannot remember the exact details of the backlight... ill try...


if i recall correctly... the 60 mkI and the ASQ have the same size screen and backlight needs... the mkII, as i also own, has a bit of a bigger screen and needs a wider backlight...

my ASQ and 60mkII were both fitted with new backlights at VST in pasadena... they explained to me that their backlight wasnt a perfect fit for the mkII, and there is a bit of lluminated screen at both edges of the mkII screen...

Yes, the ASQ10 uses the same backlight as the MPC60 Mk1. Just to confirm - I now have those backlights for the ASQ10 that do not require any soldering. They come with a cable attached which plugs into the inverter circuit of the ASQ.

Hi there,
I too am a very happy ASQ10 owner. I love it but the screen is completely dead and finally decided that after about 2 years of pointing a desk lamp onto it to read the characters it's finally time to buy a new backlight.

I've found two possibilities:

Ebay Backlight

Backlight4you

Anyone tried either of these for their ASQ or MPC60?
I'd be more inclined to go for the more green-ish one as I guess that would look more like the original unless anyone knows of another source. I'm pretty good with soldering so not worried about getting my hands dirty if necessary.
