Around Xmas I might be able to borrow (for a very long time) a MPC 1000 from a friend of mine.
I have a big question though.
If the MPC is running as midi slave and I want to record a loop (as audio), can I set the recording so that it starts at the beginning of the next bar and records for X number of bars and I get a perfectly trimmed loop without having to do any adjustments?

I tried asking my friend but his answer was "never had to record a loop in my life"

You mean make a sample automatically with out having to set the end and start points of the MPC1000s output?
The answer is no, unless you have JJOSXL OS then the answer is yes.
JJOSXL OS is an alternative operating system, see links on front page of forum.
JJOSXL has what is called 'takes' in song mode which does what you ask. Otherwise you will have to do it the old school way and actually set start and end points yourself, which is easy really. But unless you chop it to another program or make a patched phrase then it is not good at any other tempo except half and double time as you recorded at that set tempo.
