Just got my first MPC today! And I think it's broken...

I tried to format the hard drive on the MPC, it froze up every time. Wiping and formatting a roughly 200 Gig hard-drive is out of it's range. I had no other option, but to Wipe it in Windows. Also, if I wiped on the MPC I would have had a cap 128 more than likely, but I didn't, so I have storage far beyond that.

There's another post around here where someone used the same shit I did, and installed a 250 Gig. The manual came out in 2002. A lot of shit has changed hard-ware wise since then. Some of this isn't going to be in the manual, this, this right here is the manual.

When you say "it froze" do you mean "it took about 16 hours to successfully complete"?

Cos that is how long it may take.

It's possible, but it never got past the "Are you Sure? Press [DO IT]" screen when I tried.

No need to go back, whats done is done, and it functions fine.

well, if it totally screws up and digests its own Master File Table when you try to use Ak.Sys or it wants to read/write from a sector beyond the 128GB limit, DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T TOLD

Having a hard drive sit around unused for 5 yrs is usually a recipe for it to lock up.... anyone who uses hard drives to back up their data should take note to turn them on once in a while.....and make backups of backups onto DVD-r/blueray etc... (which also only will last prob. only 10-20yrs) so anyway not surprising that the HD was shot.
