2K Classic, floppy problem.

I just made a dope beat the other day and saved it to floppy disk. The next day I tried to load that floppy to continue to work on it it just says ? ? ? ?. Have I lost that beat for real or do you guys know a trick to get it loaded?

Also, how does this happen? Bad batch of disks? These are new old stock fujifilm disks. I used several of them and they work great.

Also, last time I saved that beat, I overwrited a previous version of the same beat. When asked rename or replace, I choose replace as always and when I saved it I remember seeing a message on the screen for a split second while saving. That message I couldn't read cos it just blinked and was gone before saving was finished.

Are there specific types of floppy disk you people recommend and are there things I can do to avoid this from happening again?

regular ones... if they are new in the box that is a bonus. I have to say though... I am into maxell.

and when you are not saving or loading or actually accessing a floppy disk, eject it from the drive... push that button. Sometimes in the 2000 it will out of no where start idling or spinning the disk even when you are on the main page.... this screws the disk.

So, I lost that beat right? Damned...

I have 3 brands of brand new disks here, Imation, Fujifilm and 3M. Time will tell wich ones are more reliable.

Yeah I always eject the disk after loading or saving. It makes an irritating noise if I leave em in the drive.

I guess maybe the beat is gone I dont know.... but, maybe everytime before powering down you should record what you have onto the computer... that way maybe you can salvage something if the disk screws up.

A SCSI drive may also be a good idea, I wouldn't want to rely on floppies after what happened to your beat.

Did you save an "all programs & sounds " file? For some reason they seem to glitch more than saving the programs individually. It might seem somewhat tedious but I havent lost a single file.. ever.

Another thing that can make a big difference is debauch's advice, basically as a general rule of thumb keep the floppies inside the machine for as little time as possible. So as soon as your done saving pop it out, and soon as your done loading pop the disk out etc... Even with the boot disk just pop that shit out as soon as you hit the main screen.

even the scsi stops working after a while so like was previous stated I would save to the CPU or I stll use my DPS to track into that way you have a copy plus the seperate tracks... I've had floppies since 97 talk about a headache!!

Dont get me wrong the technology was great for the times but things have changed so fast and you cant be too careful with yor beats!! So always try to back up as you go along ( but I know the cerative process does not alway allow for that).
