Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Well, I can chalk my problem up to 'user error'. I hadn't pushed down the flat cable connector hard enough onto the main board. The Atapi 741 works perfectly. I'm using a 2gb Sandisk SD card. Reads & writes way faster than my old SCSI zip. Now time to convert all my zips over to SD, and trash those god awful things. I still have to pick up a longer floppy power cable, but I'm f@&king thrilled. Thanks for the advice my good people !

Check out a new cut I just recorded:

We ordered CompactFlash readers off MPCSTUFF.com. Got one of their 1gb cards and it works but the problem is sometimes it goes to the SCREEN OF DEATH when you are trying to save. Apparently there is no way out of it unless you get lucky and hit the MAIN SCREEN button within a millisecond. Very annoying. Does anyone know if there is a button sequence to get out of it. It is stuck right now and I hate to lose my work. THANKS ! [email protected]

- Addonics ADIDECF
- SanDisk 1GB
-1.2 OS

MPC will not even acknowledge the reader or the card.
First thing I see when I go to the load screen is [NO FLOPPY DEVICE!]

I have done everything I was suppose to. The power cord works when plugged in to the floppy drive, so I dont think its that. The SanDisk 1GB was supposedly the preferred card. My computer (mac) will read the card. Need to figure this out ASAP.

thanks

Yes it's set up right, i can only think it's the card.

this is the card i'm using with no problems

it's a sandisk 4gb ultra i bought it an put it straight in an formatted it on the mpc an it worked straight away but it will only show up as 1gb.

i would try the ultra.

hope this helps peace.

1. Check all the cables again.
2. CF card must be in, when you boot up the MPC-2000XL.
3. Make sure that the floppy drive is not connected. XL won't even check IDE device when floppy disk is connected.
4. While SanDisk CF card is definitely preferred card (by me), I've heard that there are many fake SanDisk CF cards on used market. Sandisk 2GB CF card also work with XL, and probably cheaper than hunting down Sandisk 1GB CF card (which has been discontinued.)

thanks logick1 just bought the same one you have. Hopefully its just the card.

JVC,

There is only two cables for the floppy, correct?
I removed the ribbon cable that was attached to the floppy from the machine. I kept the power cord from the floppy in and plugged it into the cf reader.

I have disconnected and reconnected the cables many times. The power cable from the old floppy is ok to use right? I saw your setup with the new power cable, and thought thats what I needed too but Addonics sent me a different cable then you. I know a few other people had this same concern, but everyone says the old power cable is just fine.

lol I hope I was just ripped off on the card.
