Looking to add a few compressors (preferably mono) to my rack.
Options so far include:
Daking FET II compressor
TK Audio BC1MK2
... something from the Thermionic Culture range

Any other recommendations?

OFC I have to recommend the FMR RNC.

It's cheap, small, and sounds really nice, so there's not really any reason not to get it.

Bit of a difference in both quality and price between the RNC and the Daking though, lol. You can buy 8 RNC's for the price of that Daking FET ii.

I have no compressor in that price range to recommend but I do like my Urei/JBL 7110's and DBX118.

If you are looking at something from thermionic culture, you should just say **** it and get a stereo pair of empirical labs distressors (with the Brit mod). (Or just keep it mono)

I've honestly never heard any compressor do what a distressor can.

i can second the fmr RNC, if you want clean sounding compression, its a no brainer, you can find them for like 90 bucks used sometimes. i was getting 12db gain reduction on vocals and not even noticing the compressor kick in. it has unbalanced outs though, but that should be fine really.

if you want a more dirty sounding one, but dont want to break the bank, i swear by the Fmr pbc-6a, it sounds AWESOME on vocals, and can sound great on a bunch of other stuff too (i just never used it on anything else personally). there is even a sidechain input. this one costs 475 new and has xlr in and out.

people have had distressors and 1176's in the same room and reached for this guy over those sometimes. its that dope. when i had one, i didnt even have any desire to buy an 1176 really, and i would def buy one again before buying a 1176.

that being said, an 1176 would be **** awesome, i have also heard good things about the purple audio 1176 kit too. i think they are about 1000 dollars.

distressors with the brit mod are supposed to be the bizness too, i havent used one myself though, but my friends have and i can attest to their fantastic sounding-ness on vocals (this one didnt have the brit mod). my old teacher used to love them on overheads too.

I second dbx. But also suggest a phonic PCL3200.
Im not fussed by the RNC myself. Opto compressors are slower though so not always a good option to tame very fast transients in a say drums or bass ect. just my 2 cents
