CASIO RZ1

are they worth it all?

im already using an asr 10 and 2000 xl, so not sure if its a not needed accessory or has something special to offer.

my friend has one for sale but doesn't know much about it, are there any things to look out for?

It depends on how much your friend is selling for. I have one and it mainly sits under the desk collecting dust. You can sample up to .8 seconds at 8bits 20khz using the four sample pads combined. It creates kind of noisy and gritty samples, but not exactly special. For the same money I spent on it (about 100 USD), I bought an S900 which is much more useful and flexible. The stock sounds are pretty thin on the RZ1. The hi hats are kind of cool and the snare is not so bad, but YMMV.

yeah im not sure if its worth it.

he wants a 100 for it and i only really want it to dirty up my drums

I used to have one back in '92 and got rid of it after getting my 2000XL in 2000. It was cool little sampler to fk around with with a tiny ass screen. There are websites that show to change out the ROM chips for TR808 & TR909 sounds and also circuit bend it to tweak your sounds.

If I could find one for about $75 I'd buy it again just for nostalgia sake. $100 is too much for a 0.8 second sampler across 4 sample banks... tell your friend that.

That's 129USD. See if he'll go lower. If you can get it for 50 pounds, you might have a deal. I saw one for 110.00 USD on Ebay, not including shipping.

i got it off him for 70 in the end, not an amazing deal but not a rip off

Good job chipping away at the price! This post reminded me there are people who offer mods for the RZ-1 so I'm going to get the EPROMs for the 808, 909 and DMX drum machines added as well as pitch and better tone controls.
