sped up samples

I am curious as to how sped up soul samples are achieved in the 2000xl.......as seen in the heatmakers video or kanye, just blaze, RZA etc,,,,,, is it by changing the pitch (tuning) or by timestretch or changing the bpm.... are there any tips or tricks or advice of creating these kinds of beats or sounds.

any response is greatly appreciated.

i know it's old and played out..... i just wanted to learn different ways to manipulate samples. I am a newbie and don't plan to adopt that style as my own........i'm just asking to know it in THEORY and for PRACTICAL uses for manipulating samples. To put in in GENERAL terms...any tips or methods or advice for sampling sounds will be good for me other than just sampling loop phrases.

Its cool to ask....I rememeber when I wanted to know...The thing is, since then it has been asked a load of times so us regulars are tired of it.

Have you got an MPC or any other sampler? Some new people on these forums don't but they want to gain knowledge before they buy one.

You say "is it by changing the pitch (tuning) or by timestretch or changing the bpm...." so you obviously know the various possibilities for this, but have you had a chance to try them for yourself? If you get a result that sounds right you are probably doing the right thing (that's been done before), plus you might find something unique that becomes your sound.

Just use the 16-levels function for the sample you want to speed up. That way, you don't have to temporarily change it. If you use the 16-levels you also have more control of pitches at the touch of a pad.

If the sample still wont fit in the sequence you are trying to fit it in, then you can still have the 16-levels on. Just try to get it as close as you can to fit, and then go into the parameters for that sound and adjust the pitch one or two notches up or down to get it to fit exactly.

true.. but when u throw it on the 16 levels you cannot preserve the duration.. i don't make beats like this but i do use a technique in order to go up or down semitones without losing the duration.. in the mpc i find it frustrating to timestretch and try to match it, havn't fiured out the bpm thing yet.. but if u throw the sample into soundforge, pitch shift and hit the 'preserve duration' option and sample back into the mpc it'll work just fine.

although, i am getting a little computer noise.. anyone know how to bring the noise down?
