hey nym, in destructive chop, is there still a "slice function" where when you hold it (its assigned to one of the f buttons) down and jog wheel left or right it makes chop markers from 2 slices to 32 or 64 slices?

then you can go back to each one and edit them accordingly after you get your rough chops laid out.

thanks man.

I'm thinking upgrading to 128xlcd, after reading the comparison chart I'm curious about the simult feature. The simult available for 128xlcd says the target pad won't record. Am I reading that correctly? If I have a kick on pad 2 and want to play another kick on pad 3 via pad 2 with the simult on, the kick on pad 3 won'r record? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I see grid edit (audio) is crossed off. Does this mean no real-time swing adjustment??

Thanks

simult means one pad is recorded in the sequencer and plays back 2 pads. 9 times out of 10, this is what you want out of simult.

audio tracks have nothing to do with realtime after-the-fact swing/tc correction, which jjos does not have.
these, in my opinion, are beginner features. it isn't hard to learn what swing percentage sounds like what and apply them either before or after your recording.

nym, thanks for the reply. I'm still not 100% clear on the difference between the two simult features. xlcd has one simult while os2xl has 2 simult parameters. I get the definition of simult in general, just not the definition as jj has explained it. I was told via midi grid, realtime swing was available on os2xl, is that bad info??

slightly misleading info. in some os's you might be able to change the swing/strength/tc parameter while the sequencer is recording. this applies to MIDI that you THEN record - it does not effect MIDI that you've already recorded. i don't know which os's let you do this, because i apply TC either in advance or after the recording depending on necessity.

like i say, it's really a function to help people get accustomed to TC settings and what they do. once you know, you don't need realtime quantize. also, as sciguy pointed out in another thread, since it is a realtime process effecting non-quantized, recorded data, it would likely be a strain on the processor. and we do not want that.

simult 1 and simult 2:
simult1 is a good example of how a bug is sometimes a feature / feature is sometimes a bug. simult1, if you simult pad X to pad Y, when you record pad Y in a sequence, pad X and pad Y are both recorded.

simult2: this is the original, classic simult pad function. if pad X is simulted to pad Y, when you record pad Y in a sequence, only pad Y is recorded - but pad X and Y are both triggered/heard by pad Y.

no simult sends MIDI notes (unfortunately) and so the MPC simult effect must be reproduced in your DAW to use with vsti's and sound modules.

i think the 4000 has the feature that lets you adjust quantize while the sequencer is playing.

nym, i have a question.. does this new os let you preview sounds off the cf card white the sequence is playing?? thats one thing that annoys me about the 1000. the 500 you can..

Nym wrote:the 500 can?? that's the first i've heard of that.
no, the 1000/2500 cannot do this, the attention must be on either the RAM or the storage medium at one time.

yea, the 500 can, the sequence has to be stopped before u go into load mode, but once u are in ur card previewing sounds if you hit play start the the sequence starts playing. the normal play button is for previewing the samples...the 500 was my first mpc and it seems weird it does it and others dont...

bump!! so do u think it might be possible to brouse sounds on a cf card and use playstart to start the sequence with an os update on the 1000? or is it a hardware issue?? also how is this os coming along? is the screen still glitchy?? say i create a program with this os on my 1000 and use destructive chop, then wanna load it on my 500, "like i do all the time with jjos2xl" will it still load up fine?? im interested in this project,. please get us some updates, or is there some main thread somewhere??
