2kxl + ableton live midi problem

although I've been a member of this forum for a while this is the first time I've needed to post a question so please go easy on me. (I understand that this may not be the correct area to post this kind of question, so if that's the case please forgive my ignorance and point me in the right direction)

Ok, this is what's happening...when I'm using the XL/midi keyboard to trigger drum/instrument racks inside ableton, I'm finding that after a couple of minutes playing live the midi instruments' performance either slows down noticably or locks up completely. Ableton is still recognising pads/keys being pressed, as is evident in 'midi track in indicator' however no sounds can be heard. When I play back recordings containing midi tracks everything sounds fine but I have to restart the application if I wish to continue playing/recording live using pads or keys. I'm not entirely sure whether this is a hardware or software problem but I thought I'd ask my question here as I've already sent an enquiry to ableton and got an automated response.

This is the kit I'm using - Win Xp Home Edition SP3, AMD Athlon 5000 dual core 2.21ghz, 3 GB Ram, Edirol FA66 firewire interface, Texas Instruments compliant dual chip PCI firewire card, MPC2000xl, midi keyboard.

I always run the interface on mains as opposed to bus power but maybe the PCI card needs extra juice?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Could be related to the sample buffer of your audio interface config..
Check if it persists after increasing the buffer size in abletons preferences / your interface' control panel. Note this will increase latency as well...

thanks for the reply and sorry for my late reply!

I think I've solved the problem now, or at least to the best of my ability anyway. I think the issue was the occaisonal 'stuck' midi note that would throw everything else into disarry. I'm only using ableton plus a few vsts as a glorified sound module for the mpc and I found that with the increased buffer settings, the latency was a real problem. Anyway, the other day, out of sheer frustration I decided to run the asio4all wrapper in conjuction with the FA66 drivers and that seems to have remedied the issue, or at least for the time being.
