hey whats up guys I was wondering how to match the tempos in my mpc to the tempo in logic for example if I had a tempo that was 102.1 on my mpc what would the tempo be in logic 102.1000 or 102.0100 thanks in advance guys

it would be the exact same
102.1

the zeros after that are optional.

yeah in logic it would be 102.1000

in my experience, they sync up with almost no problem.
so it could be you're playing method.
swing wouldn't affect this at all.

you could try sending a midi clock message out of logic and receive it in the mpc, but the inherent jitter in the computer is going to make this imperfect.

what exactly is offbeat? you mean the time you hit a pad and when it gets triggered in a software instrument in logic?

if something like that is the case it may be because logic s 960 ppq and the mpc is only 96, so it "feels" like it may be hitting off beat, when in reality, there is just that much more "wiggle room" for error in the (10X) more space between quarter notes that logic has than the mpc.

ppq= pulses per quarter note. so in logic there is 960 distinct spaces between a quarter note, while in the most mpc's there is only 96 spaces. (the mpc 4000 has 480 or 960 ppq, and i think the 5k does too, if you really want to find out though you may want to look it up for yourself.)

The 'W'.

Which MPC?
Which version of Logic?
Which is master, which is slave?
Which sync method are you using?
Which sync settings are you using in MPC?

We really need this info to offer any more useful advice...

mpc 2000xl logic 9.1.6
im not making anything the slave or the master
Ive tracked out the audio into logic from the mpc
but when i go in logic to record on top of it its off beat

so when you track out of the mpc, it is in sync and on time, but when you go to record something else, ie vocals, your are hearing a delay?

your last post was really confusing.

if this is the case you might check your buffer settings, when recording use a lower buffer and little to no effects, and when you are mixing use a high buffer.

is this wheat your talking about?

ok lets just assume my sample chop is in logic and im no longer using my mpc anymore its not hooked up to my cpu why is it when i try to play drums in logic on top of the sample its off beat

are your drums off beat while you are playing them live to record or are they playing off beat if you after recording hit play in logic?
maybe you have quantization on in logic and it is messing with your timing?

and another question: you said your mpc is not connected to logic at this time, so how are you triggering the sound in logic? are you using another device like a keyboard or drumpads or are you trying to use the computer keyboard?

try to paint some drums with the mouse directly in the piano roll in logic and see if they are also playing off beat. (check with the click, also if your other tracks from the mpc are not off the grid so it seems like the logic sounds are off while in reality they are not).

logic snap to grid is often working good, but if it is not then zoom way in to check if your tracks are really on the value you want them to be.

He is not using any form of sync, only matching the tempo expecting everything to line up perfectly. No master, no slave, no midiclock, no miditimecode.

The main reason this wont work is because a tempo of 102.1 will not be exactly the same on different sequencers, they will drift out of time over a period of bars becoming gradually worse. Using midi sync when tracking will help but there are other things you could consider to improve things.

Master/ Slave?
Mains outs/ multiple outs?
Midi clock/ Miditimecode ?
Quantise on/ or off?
Timing resolution 96PPQN/ 960+PPQN?

yes, i read that he was just tracking audio from the mpc to logic and then tries to play something inside logic on top of that.
now the op must make something clear: is the audio he recorded from the mpc already drifting around the grid in logic if he hits play or is just the newly played sound inside logic drifting. that´s why i wanted him to check with the click and by zooming in very close to see where the wave is really at.

using some form of sync while tracking is shurely better than just track audio, but even then i would expect the audio from the mpc to be recorded without any drift (even if it may not land exactly on the grid).

damn so basically i have to do everything in the mpc for it to be on beat then track out the whole beat into logic to mix? that sucks balls

you are being very vauge and dodging all of our questions, we cant help you if you dont help us see what your actual problem is.

to answer your question, no you should have to do everything in your mpc because the drift shouldt be that bad, in my experience i have never had that bad of drift to even be noticeable.

when i was just messisng around with synths on top of my mpc and using logic as the sequencer.

give us more info and we can try and help you man, but you need to go back and answer all the specific questions we have asked you above.
