Do you mark your records?

Like put a post-it sticker on it, what samples it contains, what track etc.

i put stickers on the labels for juggling but thats it.

no, but sometimes on the floppy disk label I will write in the record name and some info so I remember where it came from.

If the record has writing on it or a distinct mark I can hone in on then no. Otherwise yes, I put a small removeable round bright colored sticker at a point that I know ahead of time. It makes life easier.
For a while I was into needle dropping, and I remember it was not helpful because it was better not to focus on a spot but instead to use your ears and straight feel.
I use removeable stickers in case the record becomes valuable. I like my records in good original condition. I try not to buy records that have marks. Of course some were marked by others. I have been collecting for a long time and I don't scratch the hell out of records so for the most part my collection (over 400 records) is in good shape.

dont you hate it when two records of the same pressing dont have the same label to groove orientation?

that schit makes sticker or otherwise marking necessary...

but yea, try to go off the feel and the label to "get in tune" when you can...

Yeah, my brother used to mark the labels with a marker when djing to know the sweet scratch spots. He did it for a few months then stopped because he was getting a feel for the art. So much that he also stopped using headphones and just knew the material. Too bad coke **** him up the **** scarecrow.

I don't mark my records but when I listen to a record and hear something that I like I make a note of it in a small journal that I keep with the artist's name and album title. When I run out of ideas or sample I always look back in the journal for inspiration or samples to get started.

Sounds handy. But now when I've been thinking about it, I'd rather listen to the whole record through because you can always find something new that you didn't notice before..

The only thing I mark on my records is the BPM.
Coming up as a shorty, i used to tag all over my records and album covers just to show they were mine.

I sometimes puta sticker on it with notes wich tracks are dope or have very nice samples. Especially when I just came from diggin with 10 or 20some records and listen thru. That makes things easier to sort out the "very good" ones from the j"ust good" ones later. The ones that didn't have samples and/or tracks I like went straight to a "to sell" box.

EDIT: I don't use stickers with "realglue" but more "post it" kind of stickers

i like puttin a little dot next to the track name on the label, for tracks with breaks

haha Same. I regret it now as my indie hiphop 12"s go for MONEY now plus a lovely soul collection I inherited. It's just the ignorance of youth I guess...

NOPE it's Mental that's what your eye's are for.. you know the same way people like me don't use or need BPM counters?

i use a txt in which are listed all the records sorted by name, genre,what contains(for example nice drum , bass and so on)

nah, i have a photographic memory...........can even recall samples i have used and what beats i have used them on. shit is **** when i need to re-flip though haha. be searchin for hours with just a picture in my mind no name, i was looking for a spinners joint the other day, ended up it wasnt the spinners but a UB40 joint called "labour of love" and just so happens that the name and image had blended so i was looking for the wrong joint
