MPC 2000XL Screen questions

I've been looking at pictures of MPC 2000XL's online and it appears that some have a sort of blue coloured screen and some have a sort of orange coloured screen.


Does anyone have any information about why their are different coloured screens? Did they change the screen colour for some reason during their production run?

I think the blue looking ones have been inverted. The standard LCD is that orange/brownish hue you described. The pixels/characters on the LCD are blue. I think also they tend to photograph strangely and sometimes look different in photos even if the are the same. Some flicks of blue models almost look like they have green LCD's but I've never seen that in person. It's just odd because the color of the blue case and buttons look correct in that picture.

But as far as I know on the XL LCD's, all the same or inverted. (And all gone until Envision hopefully makes their 2nd version of their replacement LCD).

as far as i know they were only ever one color (basically black on white - kind of bluish).

ive never seen an 'inverted' xl lcd.

I'm looking at mine right now. (hastening it's inevitable death ) and I think the OP just meant orange-ish as a reference point. It's more like a yellow/beige and again the fonts/graphics are a very dark blue. Probably was listed as a B&W LCD when manufactured.

GhostInMPC does the inversions and I'm sure Forat must have started the whole business of doing that.

suffice it to say, there was really only one kind of screen made for the xl, whatever the color.

you are right, it is probably marketed as 'black on white' - i cant find anything orange about it (while its on).

Could this be the OEM screen vs the envision aftermarket? Or honestly its most likely the white balance of the camera used to shoot the photo, I'm guessing most pics like that are shot with auto settings.

that white text on black doesn't sound like something that would appeal to me... cool idea though.

That's just a flick I got off ghostinmpc's site to show an LCD with the inversion on it.

Actually I have the MPCStuff Black LCD in my 2500 it's actually the easiest on my eyes, has the most clarity and the best off center viewing angles of all the screens I have. (Stock XL, 4000, MPCStuff White and Black).

And yeah like AntonPD said they just photograph weird from different angles, but I'm 99% sure the flick I linked to is one of his inverted LCD's.

The backlight in the OEM LCDs is a CCFL tube. They can come in different colors.

If you are modifying the stock white one, it takes a little ingenuity to change the color.

Yes it might be different CCFL or it is a different white balance setting on the camera.

Same MPC - different white balance settings (the top one is the most original color although in reality it is still a bit brighter.)

^Although slightly more saturated than I'm used to seeing, this is what most pics online look like color wise. I don't think there are a ton of xl's out there with different cold cathodes...
