im using the reg as a plug in within cubase 6.5 but it just wont record automation on the ren. all im trying to do is record high pass filter control, i click over dub on the ren while the notes are playing, i move the filter knobs on the hardware or even via mouse and the filter changes but it just does not record, also there is no way off manually drawing it in as when i select automation filter cut off is not even there to control.

anyone else got this problem?

also is everyone else experiencing poor cycle sync with daw?

Nope. Are you using the same frame rates in both MPC software and Cubase?

As for recording automation from your DAW: Have you assigned the filter cutoff or whatever to a Q? If yes, make sure you also have a target pad selected, or there won't be anything to actually record...

I am using the Ren with Pro Tools. I have no issues with recording automation inside the Ren's RTAS plugin.

shottz. wrote:hey jah, hypothetically speaking, if you used like fabfilter plugin to throw a filter on the entire song after the beats done, could you record the automation from the ren into protools?

does it export the automation on the final product?

Export function is simply a mix down of audio. If you have automation in your sequence, this will be included in the exported audio.

But if you are trying to automate the Ren's effects, this isn't currently possible.

I never noticed that. :o
You're right. I was always confident to be able to do so and just couldn't understand why nobody else would. Apparently you can only automate pad FX so far and that's buggy as bonkers.

Buggy? I didn't realize you can automate pad FX. FXs do not show up as options in the Automation drop-down.

That's really weird. When I checked ten minutes ago, I could select 11 Vintage compressors on pad 13 (which - naturally - doesn't make any sense), but trying to reproduce this doesn't work anymore. Sick.

EDIT:
Ah! You need to open TRACK MIX before seeing anything that matters. Automating parameters works fine, but recording them is not possible.

(That's a TRACK effect shown here, but going to PROG MIX / EDIT shows pad FX too.)

Yeah....tweaking them in real time works...you just can't record them. Recordable params will be listed in the automation drop-down.

Also I noticed track levels to be recorded, but not being shown nor being editable afterwards. Any thoughts or hints on that, JAH?

You can record/edit Track Mixer automation to include Volume, Pan, Mutes, and Sends. You can edit Track Mixer automation in Track Mix Mode. There is an EDIT MODE drop down box (upper right corner) which will allow you to display and even draw in automation curves.

Yeah, you can. But is anyone else having problems when exporting audio with automation?

If i export seperate tracks, the mute automation doesn't get exported... So it's useless...

thanks for the reply, much appreciated. i wasnt aware i had to set frame rates, it does sync ok but when i quickly press my cubase shortcut key to take cursor to start at the begining of the loop the syn looses and the akai keeps playing on from where it was.

may be im cycling wrong... is there a way in the mpc of cycling from a certain bar number to bar number?

with regards to the automation, the way i have done it is selected the mpc3ooo lowpass filter, moved the cut off with mouse or with q link knob and its filtering but when i press over dub nothing records. also surley when i click on the automation part of the track i would have thought that filter cut off would be there so i can draw in the levels but this does not show..... very annoying.
