I tried the free version (v 3.15 at the time of this writing) and I looked at the pad edit menu, the grid editor, and the pad assign (tap tempo on pad) menu--it doesn't seem like there's that much in the OS I could find utility from.
Additionally, the pads became very weird to play in terms of their responsiveness. It felt a lot less natural to try rolls or hits, and sensitivity adjustments in the OTHER menu didn't really fix that for me.
I read posts here mentioning the paid-for versions can add INSTR functionality, but can't 16 Levels or multisample programs do the same thing?
I guess because I just bought this and learned it to use in a home studio environment, I found that Recycle can handle the added functionalities of sampling and track mutes can be recorded via MIDI on my DAW.
Is JJ OS meant to make the MPC 1000 more powerful as a standalone machine without connecting to other equipment (aside from speakers or headphones)?
I looked at YouTube videos demoing it, but can someone provide a piece or song they used the JJ OS software to produce so it's possible to hear what kinds of adjustments can be made or what sounds can be created with it?
EDIT: I tried looking for YouTube videos showing how to program sounds with JJ OS and the additional functions changed from AKAI OS.. I'd have to buy the OS and read through instructions to figure it out by myself, but I cleaned out buying the MPC last week.
