kind of neat, but you might as well learn fasttracker ii or famitracker instead... because you can export those projects to run on the NES or famicom actual hardware... though if you are in love with tracker type sequencers then I suppose having 16 tracks is a big plus... since the NES only has 4 so having more in famitracker/nerdtracker/fasttracker is redundant.

haha, i knew you would reply to this.

that would be cool to export them to the hardware, but i dont really care about that so much as this has an audio import feature. im thinking of making sampled beats on the go, or at least a sketchpad for ideas.

it even has a loop mode, but sadly no crossfade looping, ther is however, forwards and forwards and backwards.

i've never really heard of trackers before i saw this, but my understanding is they are kinda similar to sequencers/workstations or something? do some people work on these exclusively?

some people do use those... trackers are basically a linear sequencer... picture cubase but it it pointed downwards... hahaha

actually, a better way to picture how they work... you know on the mpc in the step edit mode where you can see the midi notes, vel, etc? and as you push the next step button quickly you can then hear the following notes you made in your sequence? well a tracker is like that... it's step edit and you are pushing ">" button really fast.

 Pretty much spot on there, they do allow a lot of tweaks when you understand how to use them (I tried & failed dismally at Renoise).

@Damien- if you do go for making music on the DS, the Korg DS-10 synth & Electroplankton (a set of abstract synths, samplers & sequencers) are also worth checking out. Way cheaper than an Ipad or OP-1.

A good mate of mine used to mess around with Nitrotraker all the time, he made some incredible music he never shared with it (not sure why) here's a couple of old things he did on it:

This one's a track he made from a pack of loops & samples I sent him:

His Youtube channel also has an Electroplankton or two.

those tracks are awesome! have you used nitrotracker as well? electroplankton? im gonna check that out too. those beats were awesome.

I've messed around with Electroplankton on the mate's DS, was a lot of fun. It's not designed to run like a DAW or anything conventional, it's all about messing around with environments to make sounds. If you sample it you could make some really unique stuff. I guess its more of a special FX approach than anything.

Seeing it uses the DS' microphone for sampling you can capture pretty much anything & a lot of its sampled sound gets a nice gritty 12bit edge.

Here's a bit of the mate (uses the pseudonym An Owl these days) messing with his voice on one of Electroplankton's modules:

Haven't used Nitrotracker, so I can't comment there. Remember he was saying it was pretty basic compared to the other trackers he's used. Pretty well suited to how you'd use a DS (switch on, get working quick, make a tune, get on with life).

Have you checked out the Korg DS-10 synth as well? It can make some great tones with a bit of work, its basically 2x MS-10s, 2x Kaoss pads (as midi controllers) & a drum synth. Its the whole reason why I bought a DS. There's an update on the program as well (DS-10+) that makes the synths polyphonic among other things, haven't used it because it was never released where I live & Nintendo region code their shit. Dumb bastards, they lost revenue with that.

is this the korg thing your tlaking about? do you just load samples or songs into it then use it like in the video to record stutters and stuff? it looks to me like he might have it MIDI'd up to abelton live though? i wonder if some how i could midi it to the mpc?
thats crazy that this thing will even send midi messages though, gonna look deeper into this.

oh yeah, just got my DS today :-D gonna buy a charger and the supercard dstwo so i can load some of these music programs on it.

and check this out, little drum pads

and look at this sequencer:

ah i found the korg one you were talking about too

and this crazy glitch program:

Oh wow, so you bought the DS already? Nice!

That MIDIcontrol program looks awesome, like a Kaoss Pad as a sequencer/mixer... Very cool. DStep looks even cooler. Might have to get that as well, wonder if it'll sequence an OP-1?

For the Korg DS-10/DS-10+ check out these forums. They're a super helpful bunch & have gone really deep into it. I'm gonna have to get back into lurking there now.

Just remembered the same mate was even doing voice formant symthesis with a single DS-10 set up. These days his DS-10 rig is 2x DS-10 + 1x DS-10+. A bit excessive but it sounds BIG. Chances are these are all multi-DS tracks (nothing you couldn't make with a bit of sampling & a single DS-10):

dope thanks for those links man, gonna check those out. are all those soundclouds made with the ds?
i also found this list of 24 ds music apps:
http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2008/ ... -programs/

i got mine for free. my girlfriends little sister had one then lost it, so her parents ended up buying her a dsi, then about 2 years later they found it. so now she had both of them and let me borrow the ds for an extended period of time. its pretty dope. got a cool game for it yesterday too. i gave her little brother 5 bucks for a pokemon game, then took that shit to gamestop and sold it for 8 dollar credit and bought a game called lunar knights. hustlin.

Yeah those Soundclouds by An Owl are all Korg DS-10 or DS-10+.

That list off DS music programs looks interesting... Might look into getting one of those modded cartridges.

Mate, if you're hustling that hard that fast I can't wait to hear what you make with your DS when it's up & running.

those tracks do sound big. thats dope, ill have to check that out when i get the supercard. ill be sure to post some stuff in here when i get it running, waiting for the charger in the mail now, hopefully it will be here tomorow. they got some dope games on here too, hopefully i dont get too sidetracked

in the mean time, im making myself do something music related though, lately ive been avoiding tracking out my beats to my comp cause i only have 2 inputs on my interface and it takes forever; but tonight im gonna knock a few multitracks out, and make sure i at least get a rough stereo mix of each of the beats into logic.

here is a place where you can buy the aftermarket dstwo card. note that you will need a sd card to get it running; im still looking into which kind you need exactly, because i have found cheaper prices than the 8gb one they offer on that site, but im not 100% sure they will work with the card.
