Audio-in Recording Quality

Hey,

I've recently been playing with a Casio keyboard recently and was looking at getting samples recorded into the MPC (MPC 2500).

I realize that I can use MIDI recording to record the notes and then have the keyboard play back the sound itself but I currently only have a two channel C400 Fastrack Interface that goes out to my monitors. In time a proper mixer will solve this issue.

Anyway, I plugged the audio out into MPC to record and found that the levels were either always too low or always too high. I played around with the REC in volume vs the keyboard out volume and managed to get passable results.

Any idea how I can get a clean sound out of the keyboard? I was curious as to if getting another interface to handle the signal before it hits the MPC would work better or looking at compressor settings while recording maybe.

why not plug the keybaord directly to the mpc and sample in ?

Sorry, I meant that I'm taking the audio out (headphone jack) from the keyboard and plugging it into the REC in on the MPC.

Any ideas?

Well, Casio's are pretty low end & have crappy outputs to start with... But i know you gotta with what you've got...
I'd say turn the Casio to 50-60% and use the record level to get it to a good level... Remember though, you can always normalize the samples in the mpc after they've been recorded into it, so you don't need to get things too loud on the input volume...
