I bought a 303 thinking it would be kind of like a mp and it got me pretty frustrated. Ended up selling it not long after to cop a 2000xl and now to be honest i wish i kept it to go along the mp. Has dope effects and the choppin really forces you to use your ears. i can see those 2 together doing some pretty awesome music. But i wouldnt use it as my one and only sampler/sequencer.

Yeah it be my only sampler, think going to stop being skint and work harder. Just life gets in the way with bills, family etc.

I hear you. i actually stopped making music for 2 years because i had no time or space. But i ended up deciding its really something i want to do so i got rid of a lot of my sneakers and junk i had laying around to pay for some gear and it was really worth it. Now im a gear addict lol eyeing a EPS 16+ right now to go with my 2000xl. Also kijiji and craigslist can be god sends, if you look hard enough you will find that amazing deal someday.

Yeah I was a hypebeast too, this turned into vinyl toy addiction and then selling them on to pay bills, then got hooked making beats on a mpc.

Mp+sp=deadly combination.

64 samples in the mp, 32 in the sp....midi the shit out of the sp, you now have a (re)sampler w/effects. I would pay $150 just for the reverse button on the 303, lol

404sx operates on batteries and has a built in mic.....portable sample capturing device!

Anyways, to answer your questions

1)saving and data transfer are waaaay different than an MPC.
2)you can preview sounds by pressing the pad the sound is assigned to. No menu diving folders to load sounds from. There are basically banks or programs, which can be loaded up manually, and samples are assigned to pads within each program/bank.
3)chops and slices are done by copying the whole sample (or a trimmed up section of one) to the next pad...if you have 8 chops you wanna use, you need to chop the sample 8 times (or chop it in the mp and export the chops via sd card).

All of this seems super tedious, but once you have a workflow down, the sp just becomes an extension of the mpc.

Jonestown where can we hear some of your beats made with this combo? Always combing the sites to get another sp series to do some more out of the box beats.

cheers man, its such a great device I'm having more fun making joints on a sp than my old mpc. I'm thinking if I have cash to eventually get a 606, its more interesting to me that I can warp and resample with effects.

I won a brand new 404SX from eBay today. So I'm looking forward to catching up with all the info around here, as well as the SP Forums. I've been looking at SPs for a while, before deciding to go with the 404SX. I know I'll get a lot of use out of it between the MPC 2K and the rest of my gear, as well as using it on it's own, anywhere. I can't think of a better portable sampler to have. I see a lot of experimental and creative potential in this sampler.

^ yeah man.. you making power moves lately... I know this will tie everything together with the fx.. you got all those volcas and other small pieces so this will add onto any of those as well as add on the 2000. You gonna need a nice 16 track mixer soon.
