I noticed member Bobbybland was having trouble sending midi from the Ren to his daws midi channels. This is possible in the Ren, at least in Pro Tools. Note: Ren will only send midi virtually in plugin mode; it will not send midi out the physical outs. But in Pro Tools, simply insert Ren on an instrument track. Set your track views to show Instruments. Create a new instrument track and insert an instrument, say Xpand. At the top of the Xpand track, set the midi channel to receive midi from MPC channel 1. Set your track one in the MPC to Midi and channel 1. Record arm the Xpand track and press the pads. The MPC should now be sending midi to Xpand. Create another instrument track, insert say Massive. Set that instrument track to receive from MPC midi channel 2 and record arm it. Set track 2 in the MPC to Midi and channel two. Now play the pads and it should only trigger the Massive instrument.

Sequencing is complete ASS though as you have no transport function. So you have to do a combination of turning the Count In on in Pro Tools and using your mouse to record arm the MPC from inside the MPC window. Set Pro Tools to Count In on play and for 1 bar. When you press play it will count in and you can sequence in the MPC. Or you can arm Pro Tools to record and sequence in Pro Tools using the MPC as the Controller.

I'd personally just rather run the MPC in standalone along side Pro Tools and control Pro Tools through a physical midi cable through my interface. But for people who like to work like this, it's possible! 8)

Have you checked the MPC University tutorial videos? Young Guru is a Live user.

yep he doesnt actually show midi being recorded in ableton and the settings you can change only allow transport control and not actual midi notes from the pads or at least thats what is happening

I was going to try and help out here, but in Akai's infinite wisdom, they have restricted the plugin from either loading or having any functionality in Ableton while the software is locked.

Have you tried this: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=162532

chopchop wrote:its like transport only

the weird bit is i can record my pgm using a keyboard going through the ren but that is just pathetic

I tend to focus on my DAW of choice (Pro Tools) but I am downloading the trial version of Live as I type this to trouble shot and see if I can find a solution to your woes.

No problem. I have Live downloaded and installed. I will look into it over the next 24-48 hours. At first glance, I need to brush up on Live's manual as it doesn't look like a typical DAW.

thx

The Ren AU plugin doesn't send MIDI to Logic tracks as far as I can tell. But using OSX's IAC driver (virtual MIDI), I can operate both the Ren and Logic in standalone mode and route MIDI between the two apps.

Are they gonna get the AU plug to route midi - having to use the standalone to send midi to logic seems totally insane. Pretty much the only thing now that is annoying me with the ren... lack of midi functionality. Also would be amazing if you could actually use the q links to control stuff in logic/ableton...

Never. The AU sdk for the most part does not allow for MIDI out. On OS X with a VST host present there is no real benefit to using AU whatsoever.
