Well the only good thing is that you now learn that a back up is worth the time and effort.
Sorry you did it though, that is a bit rough.
Ok so did you format it with computer or MPC OS?
If you have a reformatted drive then I guess all you can do is reformat the drive with the MPC OS.

It helps us help you if you actually provide the relevant info???? What MPC, what JJ OS?
I know you have a 1000 or 2500 cos of JJ, but that does not matter right now really. What is formatted, CF card or hard drive? again more info helps here.

You have to just put the OS on the drive and boot. You know like you did when it was installed. But it is not clear if you have no OS at all? or just no JJOS. Does it start on a OS akai or JJ??

Really you should know that the OS is in the Flash ROM, (I nearly said EPROM, but that is cos I am old) not drive. It is on the drive but that is just so it can load it into the Flash ROM.

so that means if it boots just download the JJOS onto drive and then load it. simple. Follow the instructions on JJOS website. Also make sure you have the updated version to this way, not older version.

So reformat with OS. If you have say no hard drive and just CF card then format that with JJOS.

Cool, Its the MPC 1000 (mpc1000bk) basicly I formatted the hole system, I just wanted to wipe all my songs cause they just sounded wack blah blah... but have some how managed to wipe the lot. Formatting was done on the MPC it self not via computer,I was using the JJOS 3 (the demo version).

It asked me if i was sure i wanted to format the entire mpc and just didnt bloody think..I hit do it the mpc did its thing then went blank

When I turn the MPC on it just comes up with a blank screen, the green back ground with no visuals what so ever at anytime..

I went to plug it in to the computer via USB and the computer will no recognise the MPC, comes up with a message saying their is a malfunction or something rather
as I was going to reinstall the jjos.

As far as knowing what is formatted i take it the hole lot is because I cannot access the mpc at all...

cheers for the feed back bilprock

well a MPC will still boot if drive is formatted. OK so since it not doing this then two things to do.
First is to make sure your screens contrast is set right. Sometimes it is too bright to actually make anything out, so turn on your MPC and after 30 seconds or so, hold down stop button and turn jog wheel. It might be that and if your MPCs contrast is set too high you will see nothing till you do this screen contrast correction.

If by chance you have some how erased the OS then I suggest doing the following. Take out hard drive and get a CF card and a USB CF card reader (borrow one or buy one), then put the Akai OS on it and put it in the MPC and then turn it on. This way it should see OS and be able to be loaded into it. I think it does from memory.

When you say demo version do you mean the free version. They all can be demo'ed.

cept you can not demo the XL screen upgrade one, unless you buy the big screen upgrade of course.

yeah I think nym was trying to say 'make sure it's not just your screen contrast' right right? nym nym? And I ramble so he might have missed it or was rightly reinforcing the point as it is very very relevant.
I reckon its this

yeah i was on my phone. screen contrast turned all the way up or down is a common source of "blank screen" woes
