Fully upgraded 2000xl or 5000 or 2500 with jjos

Hi I'm trying to pick out my first mpc. Before I've been using an sp-505 and reason. So I'm trying to decide if I should get a fully upgraded 2000xl or a 5000 both seem to have some features I really like. Please let me know what you guys think and why, thanks

well now, not so fast lamp... we dont know what he plans on using the mpc for.... doing gigs at rough pubs known for bar brawls might make the 2000xl the smartest choice. It's the one model where tank build quality meets features and cost right in the middle...

jjos2xl....or get a 4000, 2000xl doesnt seem to have mute groups, and is hella slow compared to my 1000jjos2xl and my 500, im not really sure if the 2000xl has mute groups or not, still figuring it out, but after i fix it up im gonna off it....

Yup. Kinda lame. And from what I can tell so far there is no zoom for wave view in trim mode. Man. I can run circles around the 2000xl with my 500, chopping and all..no zoom and I'm still chopping by ear..lol...get jjos buddy.....

"You can enlarge or reduce the sample wave display by pressing ZOOM+ [F3] or ZOOM-[F2]. Press ZOOM- [F2] to display the entire wave and set a rough end point then press ZOOM+[F3] several times to make fine adjustments."

Nice.. ill check that out. Haven't had a chance to look at the manual yet. Been too busy fixing the 2000xl up. It came to me really messed up..thanks for the tip!! I hate how slow it puts the Wav on the trim screen too.. why's it so slow like that?? I need to update the OS too. And put a cf card reader in it.

that's because you know the 500 and you dont know the 2000xl. I hate the shift and alt buttons.. where every button has 3 functions. then you gotta go through menus etc. I also hate the 500 pads, the 500 layout, the 500 screen, the 500 jogwheel and buttons... but I still may get one some day for the fun of it... and because a friend of mine has one so it might be good to have for compatibility and sending files etc.

Mute groups are great if you also have choke groups. In the xl, you can have pad 1 mute pad 2... without pad 2 muting pad 1. Im not sure of the dozens of various MPC os versions that came after the 2000xl in the various jjos machines and akai oss and all that.... but I prefer pad mute from the 2000 series over just putting a pad in a group and every pad in the group mutes pads in the same group. it needs to be able to mute a group without being muted by that group.... not sure if that is an issue on some mpc models... but I have seen that on other gear.

Well mute groups is definitely something I want. I was under the impression that the 2k had mute groups and thats I one of the reasons I want the 5000 because I know that it has mute groups. If I cant get mute groups with the 2k thendotted ably wont get the 2k (Id like to be able to mute the previous pad I pressed when I hit my next pad while still being able to rearrange my sample.). I plan on just using the mpc I buy for just staying home and makig beats. I like the idea of the 5k also having a built in synth.I also like that the 5k can speed up a sample with the tune feature and then adjust the pitch seperatly. I haven't been able to look into the 2500 that much but if it has some of these features (or similar ones) I'd Definatly be interested in checking it out. What do u think is an overall better all in one machine for me.

if u wanna love the 500's pads, grab some 1000 black pads and cut the extra row off, they feel so much better then the 500 grays, i got some fat pads for a 1000 and cut the row off too, the regs feel better imo but the fats look better, just have an issue with pad one getting stuck sometimes..........

back on the subject, ive never used a 5000, so i cant recomend it, it looks nice, messed with one in gc and didnt like the trim screen, i dont like how u have to hit close in the trim screen before u switch to another sample. i know its just one extra step, but damn..

Get either an MPC1000 or MPC2500 with JJOSXL. I'd probably go for an MPC1000 unless you specifically need the additional outs and tilt screen.

Put it this way - for my job creating tutorials for MPCs for the past 10 years, I've owned and heavily used all MPCs since the MPC2000 (except the 4000) and I can tell you that the 1000/2500 + JJOSXL combo beats all of them for most situations.

I've usually focused on the 2500 but recently have found myself using the 1000 more and more often, and TBH if you want a tank, the 1000 is a sturdy machine, even though the sides are plastic. No problem if you want to cart it around gigs etc.

i side with tutor on this one!! jjos all the way!! and the 1000s are built like tanks jjos is updating os quite often too, akai just drop thier os after a few updates..
