Fully upgraded 2000xl or 5000 or 2500 with jjos

Get either an MPC1000 or MPC2500 with JJOSXL. I'd probably go for an MPC1000 unless you specifically need the additional outs and tilt screen.

Put it this way - for my job creating tutorials for MPCs for the past 10 years, I've owned and heavily used all MPCs since the MPC2000 (except the 4000) and I can tell you that the 1000/2500 + JJOSXL combo beats all of them for most situations.

I've usually focused on the 2500 but recently have found myself using the 1000 more and more often, and TBH if you want a tank, the 1000 is a sturdy machine, even though the sides are plastic. No problem if you want to cart it around gigs etc.

Sweet thanks can you tell me if the 2500 and t 1000 can do the things I stated above like mute groups and the ability to speed up the sample and then adjust the pitches separately?

yes, they both have mute groups, u can pitch the sample in program mode also in trim edit mode, im pretty sure, if my memory serves me right, also u have time stretch if u wanna change the time of the sample without effecting the pitch

the mpc2000 and 2000xl can do mutes... it just isn't implemented the same way as newer models... it isn't a group where you can set every pad to mute each other with one click. You have to choose a pad you want to get muted... and you choose other pads to mute it.

Thanks for the explaination but I think mute groups from something like th 2500 or 1000 is what i'm looking for so that I can rearrange a sample eaisily

Sweet! but does the time stretch **** up the quality of the sample?

Pitch shift, tune and time stretch are all available on the 1000/2500, Akai OS and JJOS, the 5000 doesn't have anything extra in this regard.

TIme stretching and pitch shifting need to be used sparingly on any MPC (the new Ren has the best timestretching as it's computer based and created by a separate company).

Just out of curiosity, what was it about the 4000 that you decided not to get it? Does the 1000/2500 with JJOS do most of what the 4000 does? I read so many post from 4000 owners who say its the best but most misunderstood mpc. Would you ever do a Beat Making for the MPC4000 guide?

I just purchased a 1000 and plan on upgrading to the large lcd. It will be used at home, mostly to make beats/sample and use with Logic Pro.

Just never got round to getting a 4000 at the time it was an 'active' MPC, and I definitely couldn't afford one at that time (these sites were just a hobby in those days).

Basically by the time I was actively writing the MPC books, my time was spent writing for the current (and significantly more popular) MPCs at the time - 1000, 2500, 500 etc.

I am actually looking to get an MPC4000, when the right one comes along, purely as an indulgence - i.e. a dirt cheap one that needs repairing and fixing up.

Not sure about comparing the 4000 to jjosxl, but I don't think they can compare directly, different beasts. Not sure how many here have both, they'd be best to answer that one.

Nice.. ill check that out. Haven't had a chance to look at the manual yet. Been too busy fixing the 2000xl up. It came to me really messed up..thanks for the tip!! I hate how slow it puts the Wav on the trim screen too.. why's it so slow like that?? I need to update the OS too. And put a cf card reader in it.

after i talked to you a couple days ago my friend brought a 2000xl over and we messed with it for quite a few hours. wehn your in the chop screen, i think you push open window to do fine adjustments.

i would go with the 2500 jjosxl though.
