Sample Length vs Loop Length

So I built a beat around 2 bars, looping. Good groove, good sounds, all that. Now I want to add in a sample that exceeds two bars. How do I achieve this? As is, the sample will play for the 2 bars and then stops, and I've tried it with the sample set to One-Shot as well as Note On. Would like to keep it in the box, no DAW required.

so you are not using the sequencer then? Just playing samples instead?
If that is the case then just go to the sample edit window and set loop on. Then in program window turn it to loop play instead of one shot or note on. it will now loop.

I am using the sequencer to playback my drum & synth patterns. It's a 2-bar loop. I want to drop in a sample that's more like 16 bars long. So if there was an option to have different bar lengths for each track within the sequencer, that's what I'd be looking for.

You could set you sequence to be a 16 bars loop (8 x your 2 bars loop of drum and synth pattern). Then on same sequence, another track, hit you sample's pad at the beginnig of the 16 bars sequence. You could even add variations in your 8 x 2 bars loop of drum and synth.

Sounds good to me. Is there a way to copy what I've done in the 2 bars onto all the new bars? I suppose I can just enter everything in manually in the Grid Edit - that's been a pretty easy way to edit notes, so far.

Look in SEQ EDIT (MODE + pad 13), BARS tab.

EDIT: Copy

From sq: 1
First bar:1
Last bar: 2

COPY

To sq: 1
After bar: 2
Copies: 7

Done it, and I'll continue to do it, thanks - sometimes it's helpful to have a seasoned soul point you in the right direction (especially when learning JJ and MPC for the first time, and I've already found that the Akai manual isn't always accurate).

to copy samples, i have better luck highlighting everything in grid edit, then clicking copy, then going to the end (when your 1 note past the end) and clicking paste. it is sorta tedious if your doing it for 5 tracks at a time (as you have to copy this 5 times, but it works way better than seq edit for me.

also, if you want to copy more than one full sequence, (say you wanted to keep your drums on tracks 2 through 5, but make a different sample chops on track one) just highlight the sequence name section, then click "window" and click copy to new sequence, and you can copy it to a new sequence and just delete everything on the first track.
