16 levels button stopped working/can't change drum type

All of a sudden my 16 levels button won't work and I can't change my Track Type or Program with my data wheel? Can anyone assist me, Thanx

still broken? are you trying to do these things while you're in record mode?

still not working. I wasn't in record mode. One day i turned it on and it just wont work. everything else can be changed with the data wheel but I cant change the drum type and the levels wont work thanx

I also have this problem. There are several posts related to this same glitch, with no apparent solutions. I have contacted AKAI and they say there are "investigating it". I don't believe it is hardware related, because my jog wheel works fine for everything else, just can't change the track type or program.

I've reloaded the OS, and done the factory reset over and over again, with no success. This is super weird and has made my MPC useless. If anyone figured out how to fix this please post your knowledge!

I have seen this fault 3 times before and even changing the tact switches didn't solve the problem.

HOWEVER! I did get to the bottom of it.
PLEASE FIRST CHECK TWO POINTS!
1.IT IS NOT JUST A DEAD TACT
2. IT IS NOT A BROKEN PCB STRIP!
Follow the flat ribbon strip located bottom left of the control pcb to its connection socket on the motherboard; your problem is the connection.
Unclip the grip and disconnect the ribbon.
(sometimes disconnection and reconnection is all it takes)
Other times it is a bad connection in the socket and bonding the top of the ribbon to the top of the socket with sticky foam or a strong strip of tape will hold a good connection.

Don't dismiss a hardware issue just because everything else works.

Akai Mpc control boards are all linked in one matrix before connection via a few channels to a main motherboard pcb. One small bad connection can cause a world of problems.

The last time I saw this fault the 16 levels didn't work, but pressing the button when mode was flashing stopped the function. This meant the tact registered contact but didn't access the 16 level program.

The rest of the unit worked perfectly.

Sorry, not so tech-saavy here - this is the first time I've opened up the MPC.

The 'control pcb' is that the yellow board that all the buttons and the jog wheel sit on? if so I see a ribbon at the bottom of it by the play button that appears to go down into the motherboard - is this what you are referring to?

To get to it you will need to remove the bottom plate

Ok I disconnected and re-connecting both ends of that ribbon. Problem still remains.

So how about suggestion #1 - where do I check for a dead tact? The jog wheel works fine for everything else except track type and program..

The tact idea was for the other guys 16 level issue.

The jog issue you have could be os but it's unlikely!
What os are you using?

This is such a weird problem..the inside of my MPC looks so clean, apart from the pad receptors. Could they be somehow causing this jog wheel glitch?
