Need help setting up the MPC 1000 and ASR-10 midi!

I just bought the black mpc 1000 and I'm trying to set up my Asr-10 through midi. I set up 3 instrument tracks on my Asr then when I went to midi status and changed it to midi, hit the keys and nothing happened. Then I changed it to local then it played the keys and my samples came on. So I changed my midi status to "Both" just to be sure it'll go through. I went to my mpc 1000 and changed the first three tracks from "Drum" to "Midi" and left my drum break on track 4 and left track 4 on "Drum". I got confused on the midi sync part and the Asr midi status part. Can anyone on here please explain the whole midi setup on the mpc 1000 and Asr? I read somewhere on this site about the setup but people on here weren't helping me. Can someone please explain?

You bought the gear, so you really gotta help yourself to a large extent. Here is a thread with the info. If you have any questions, post a reply. What exactly did you read? People on here weren't helping you? Is this not your first post? Try again...

Yea I read the post but I was trying to set up the midi for my 1000 but some of the people on there didn't have the 1000. People explained about hooking up their asr-10 to the 2000, 2000xl or the 60. I read something about your screen on your Mpc is suppose to blink I believe when you play with the asr keys so you'll know that the midi is working. But that didn't happened. I'm new to the mpc. The topic helped but it didn't help all the way. But like I said I'm new to the mpc.

OK we'll that thread explains the process accurately in terms of how things need to be set up. All you need to do is transfer the midi settings in the thread to the MPC1000. I can only suggest you spend some time learning how to use the MPC1000 and its midi settings before attempting more advanced hardware connections. Walk before you can run, as the saying goes.

Do you even know how to make the basic midi handshake connection?

Taken from the 1000 manual:

In the Type field, select MIDI.

In the Pgm field, select OFF.

In the Midi field, select a MIDI channel.
Here, you set the MIDI channel to send the MIDI data on. Set the same channel as the one on of the sound module.

Taken from my mind:

On the ASR hit edit, system/midi, use the arrows to find and set 'Midi In Mode = Multi'

Instrument 1 on the ASR will be midi channel 1, Instrument 2 midi channel 2, and so forth. Use a different track for each instrument.

That should do it.

Hey I saved my beat on my MPC 1000 along with my sample chops that i've recorded on my mpc and i upload my beat one day and my drums sequence loaded up but my sample chops from my asr-10 didnt come up. I dont know what happened. I talk to my friend and he told me that he think the problem is that I might need a instrument cable but i already had midi cables connected. I saved the song as "entire memory". What do you think I did wrong?

Where did you save the "sample chops" you made on the ASR-10? On the ASR-10 I presume as an instrument? Or did you resample them from the ASR-10 into the MPC1000 as a program? Make it clear exactly what you did, if you can remember.

The MPC will save the work you did on the MPC, in this case, the drums only.

Did you save the samples on the ASR10 in the ASR10 (floppy disc or SCSI)??

The ASR10 samples will not be saved on the MPC, understand?

You need to save your work ON EACH SAMPLER, saving doesnt work through MIDI.

It doesn't work like that, ever.

Yea I always save my samples that I chop on floppy but how can I save a full length song on my mpc with my asr-10 hooked up thru midi? I did everything but as fas as saving my entire work, how do I save?

You need to learn about 'recording' AKA 'tracking out'.

Making beats is one thing, recording them with all instruments and sounds included is another. You probably know that most people use a mixer/ audio interface and computer DAW for this, to record the AUDIO OUTPUTS of the MPC and other hardware.

I think you really need to do your homework on recording/ tracking out, and search through the 'Getting Started' and 'MPC1000' forums. The need to actually record shouldnt have come as a surprise to you. Start another thread with a title like 'Tracking out for beginners' in either of those forums, this thread has served its purpose in getting you hooked up to the ASR10.

So you can't save a full length song on the memory card and upload it on the computer, drag and drop files and mix it on the computer?

We are going around in circles here, you gotta try and help yourself.
