L..A..T..E..N..C..Y (is it killing me? Help!)

MY SETUP: MPC 2000/XL (Slave), Triton Classic (Slave), Roland 1680 Workstation (Master & only used to record vocals), Mackie 24/4 mixer

MY SITUATION: Sometimes it seems like after I record vocals & playback the songs they seem to have a dragging feel, which really saps the energy/vitality out of them. Looking at the counter everything seems fine, but to my ear it just doesn't fall right where I would like it. This is extremely evident when I playback a copy from cd.

MY QUESTION:
Is this a latency problem? How can I correct this issue?

word. I had a similar problem with a vs880 or 840 one of them little SIAB's thaat my boy brought thru to record some of his stuff onto, it would gradualy go out of sync just a tiny little bit. It became noticeable when I pitched the tracks waaay down and then I could hear the fallouts in sound and stuff, hear the hats go off just a tiny bit etc.

this is why the mpc rocks, its sequencer is solid as heck, hands down the best Ive laid hands on. Thats why in the manual the mpc is alwyas used as the "core" or in a studio the mpc is front and center, cuz the thing you touch the most is the sequencer.

just sync it and tell the mpc to send MMC as well so that when you use the mpc transport controls the other gear starts and stops and stuff and its easy as pie.

so is it better to have the mpc as a master..right now i have my vs1880 as a master....whats the difference. thanks

the difference is the MPC is just plain "better"

consider that you are recording audio on a device which is "Master". all gear has processors just like computers do, and its not unfair to assume that in your case specifically, its a high processing load to record audio AND be master.

SLAVE it.

also if its pretty important to keep a solid sync then use SMPTE. follow the directions to "stripe" a track on your audio recorder and you will be locked much tighter then MTC can.
