weird L out behaviour of radio amp

the last couple of days, my left speaker had been 'acting up' (cutting in and out, randomly, solved by a light touch of the speaker wires)
i assumed it was the speaker wires ends, so i trimmed them etc..

but the problem remains, if i switch my speakers around (L and R), the one receiving the L signal has the problem. so i thought 'oh then it must be the amp connector, since prying with it usually immediately solves it'

but! a few minutes ago, the behavior changed: now it was as if the signal was gated on the left speaker, and it sounded distorted too

could all this be the result of the connector being faulty? i find it strange that it would depend on the signal (the gating).. maybe it's because of the mechanical coupling?

yep its the amp from what you described.

ya gonna have to open it up and see. look for burned out capacitors on the board. specially if it is more than a few years old.

you sure? would that explain why fiddling a bit with the speaker wires going into the amps connectors usually solves the problem?

hmmmm, maybe it is not a cap then. More like dry solder on PCB that has that connector. Do you have a multimetre? trace back from plug to PCB and see if it is got current.
