Hi,

i recorded some fake scratches with the aim of 2500s fader and some samples. (pretty dope indeed)

Now, i like just some portion of the 4 bars sequence; tried to copy and past the different parts but just the notes had been recorded...the tune's automation remains on the same pitch.

Is there ant solution to that?

I mean to copy notes and pitch variation from the original take?

Tried to mess with step edit but wasnt so easy to understand...

Thanks!

Just tried ur suggestion but still coping just the notes, not the qlink automation....

The only way seems fixing the values with the STEP EDIT window, but due to the huge data per step, just fixing a bar takes forever.

Back in the days with the 1000 and os2xl 1. something i also remember some graphical window in which the qlink values where editable easily, unfortunately i cant find it.(2500 osxl 3.26).

what OS are you using? always helpful to include it in your post or sig.

if seq edit isn't copying qlink or cc info, i think we could report that as a bug and get it fixed. i agree that copying in step edit is not desirable at all

Im using mpc 2500 and JJOSXL version 3.26 ( i guess the latest).

If just someone with the same os can confirm, i tried several times and seems not workin, but maybe im doing wrong something im not excluding at all the user error case cause i dont use the seq edit so often.

Anyway thanks a lot for the replies and the support!

To copy pitch automation grid edit is the way to go for the copy. You can also hit left cursor button to highlight DRUM/MIDI/CHORD/ARP ect. Even as it plays unlike main screen.

All you do is copy and select and it will copy any data as well such as pitch info
I am on 1000 though so maybe a bug but i doubt it.

Grid is very easy. You can use bar forward and bar back to select to the end of a bar.

works for me

If i record the automation with the qlink set to REALTIME, when i copy a portion of the bar just the note are recorded.

Beside if i set the qlink to NOTE ON and i record a new automation, when i try to copy it finally the slider's movement is recorded correctly.

So the automation has to be made with the qlink set to NOTE ON to be copied.

If i record the qlink movement with REALTIME and i changed it later to NOTE ON i cant copy the slider's information.

This behavior is at lest very unpleasant to work with.

How do you copy? what window/mode?
Beside if i set the qlink to NOTE ON and i record a new automation, when i try to copy it finally the slider's movement is recorded correctly.

Note ON is note variation and it has nothing to do with REALTIME events
So the automation has to be made with the qlink set to NOTE ON to be copied.

Huh? no
If i record the qlink movement with REALTIME and i changed it later to NOTE ON i cant copy the slider's information.

What? Really RTFM (Akai) about q-links

Main View, Grid Edit, Step edit.
Bugfix wrote:What? Really RTFM (Akai) about q-links

So from the Akai manual>

When the NOTE ON is selected in the Change field, the value of the Q-Link slider/knob will be recorded as Note Variation information with the Pad Event.
When the REAL TIME is selected in the Change field, the value of the Q-Link slider/knob will be recorded as Q-Link event, independent of the Pad Event.

So if the slider is set to realtime, is there a way to copy qlink event in a sequence, from one bar to another?
Cause if i try in main view, step edit or grid edit it wont do it, it will just copy the note information!

What is written in the akai manual just confirm what i stated before (and discovered by myself)...IF SLIDER IS SET TO REAL TIME AND QLINK MOVEMENT IS RECORDED, WHEN U COPY NOTES IN MAIN VIEW, GRID EDIT AND STEP EDIT, QLINK EVENTS ARE NOT COPIED!

Is there a way to copy the events and the notes at the same time? or just the events?

if not can jj add this feature?

thanks!

OK, it's morning here. After you copy.. do you have q-link leds turned on or off? coz if it's on.. you won't hear what's recorded. Must be turned off.

So i got a program on a track, and I set Tune -/+120 REALTIME, TRACK.

I go back to mainscreen, turn on q-link, play pads, move q-link..
OK i got it recorded (i hear changes)

I go to STEP EDIT.. (view: all events) i can see notes and realtime events

so now, it's depent what you want:
1. on mainscreen i move to track number (1) > WINDOW> copy > to track 2
i go to step edit, and i see everything is there, both notes and realtime
example.. i press erase and do it > notes are erased, realtime is there, i can record another notes with the same automation from track 1.. still reading?

2.another way: i got to seq edit (mode13), (events tab) and im copying from track 1 to the same sequence to track 3 > do it
i check step edit.. woah.. everything is there

..and that's how I do it..

now i go to q-link section again, and I set on the other q-link (or the same)
HPF, -/+120 Note On, TRACK

back to main, press overdub, move the HPF while it's playing and i hear.. the HPF is applied together with previous REALTIME events.

I hear both on the same track. While you can copy and separate (cut , mix) REALTIME events, you can't do that with NOTE ON, this is note variation strictly conected to note, you can only copy notes and note on events will be there.

If I'm not clear somewhere, let me know. Try what I wrote, and get back does it work.

cool man thanks for the effort, but...what about if i want copy the independent qlink event on the same track?

your example is correct and it works, but just if you copy events from one track to another...i need to copy qlink event from bar 1 to bar 2 in the same track (and the same sequence).

This is what im talking about from the first post that i made.

So for been clear: IF SLIDER IS SET TO REAL TIME AND QLINK MOVEMENT IS RECORDED, WHEN U COPY NOTES IN MAIN VIEW, GRID EDIT AND SEQ EDIT, QLINK EVENTS ARE NOT COPIED. THIS IS VALID JUST IN THE SAME TRACK FROM ONE BAR TO ANOTHER, OR IN THE SAME BAR!

Like i said 3 post before the only way seems to edit manually the values in STEP EDIT, but it takes forever!

SEQ EDIT, mode 13, events tab.. you have to select time to copy, number of copies, etc.. you can manage even 1/96 of a bar you can copy from track to track, in the same track.. really you can do it all.. Really if you manage this mode you will discover a whole new world. Spend some time on it.

I ain't using no main, no grid, nor step for that purpose.
By andreat668 Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:43 pm
YES!!!

thanks dude it works!

but i still dont understand why main view and grid cannot do that, maybe cause they just manage notes not events?

Anyway serious stuff from the seq edit window, the events and trmove tabs are clear now.

Just i got some problems with the bars tab, not so clear at all for me

But at the end **** it, i can make i complete beat now! Maybe ill join some beat battle at some point!

U know english is not my native language, so sometimes after an hard working day is not easy to understand stuff from the manual or the mpc...

I'm not english native either, I just read it around 2005 :) Just remember you can separate realtime from notes, and you can copy it between tracks alone.. to add another notes. There are also things not covered in manual like "transpose" in seq edit, which works different on DRUM and MIDI tracks.

Ah, BARS tab, it's just all 64tracks at once. Like you got basic beat (few tracks) on 4bars.. and you want to make 16bars of it, or you want to repeat first bar, 4 times after bar x.. etc.. just all tracks at once.

Now, keep in mind that all 'times' and 'bars'.. depend on Tsig (time signature), but that's another story.. when you will get to a point, as you will want to copy all tracks at once, but just a half, or quarter of a bar or less.
