Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Hey fellas,

I should know this after 8 years but I don't ...probably in here somewhere.

When in 16 pad mode - tuning , and triggering a sample over several pads in a scale. I find that even though I trigger the pad and am holding it down sometimes it just cuts out/stops. (Obviously I'm not in one shot mode when I'm doing this). Also two pads can't be active at the same time - one of the pads will get cancelled out.

What I would like to be able to do would be to have the original sample in one shot mode and then spread out over 16 levels/tuning. then have the previous trigger cancel when I press the next pad in the sequence.

I know this has something to do with regions and zones - but I always been a bit bewildered by this part of the 4K.

Can someone steer me in the right direction with this? :hmmm:

Cheers!

Have you checked the polyphony setting on the program page? Goes from 1-64 voices if I remember correctly. If it's set on "1" you'll only get one voice (sample) per program at the same time. This thread may shed some light on your other issue.

Oh, and it's 16 levels not 16 pads. Semantics, I know.

Hi in the pitch window (within Program settings) the poly is set to 64 for all pads - thanks for your suggestion..Still haven't got to the bottom of this yet...anyone?

Do you have the ability to make a video of the issues and post it in here? That would help because I can't comprehend the issue. I made a video put it on youtube then posted it and I was given great answers shortly there after.
Cheers,
Ian

It's a PITA but a video of this behaviour and your program settings really would help with the troubleshooting. Good call Ian...

If you want maximum flexibility you should consider using a full pad bank for that particular sample. So either assign the sample to 16 pads, tune it and add mute groups, or use the pad copy function first if you have a lot of settings already assigned.

I'm not sure what your main issue is related to though? It might be worth checking the mod matrix because it sounds like Zone Select is tied to an LFO.
