MPC4000 SSD installed issues

Can I also check the IDE cable you used?
Was it 40-wire or 80-wire?

there is most definitely a jumper on it...or at least should be. it sits between the ribbon cable connector and the power cable connector. if it's not there you should just see two bare pins. since you're not using the cd drive at the moment just borrow one of those jumpers and see what happens. again, for testing purposes keep the cd drive unplugged so that you're going straight from the motherboard --> adapter --> ssd.

you said your old hd just spun? as in: didn't load/was malfunctioning? because if the old drive wasn't working...and the new drive isn't working...well, that kinda suggests that perhaps the problem is not the drive. just a thought...

I Took It To My Local Computer Store And They Swapped It For The Original, But I Think It Is 40 Wire.

I'll Double CheckThe Adapter When I Get Home From Work, But I Didn't See Any Extra Pins...

Old HDD Just Spun At Highest Speed With MPC on And Then Does Not Show Up. Which Can Certainly Indicate Some Other Issue, Except The Old HDD does Same Thing When Connected To My PC.....

just popped the hood on my machine to check. the jumper is on the corner of the adapter adjacent to power cable socket. if you need clarification you can pm me your email address and i'll send you a photo.

Referring to empty holes at bottom right? If so I could patch a piece of wire between... if I understand diagram, however, master is set by connecting none, slave by jp0 only connected, and cable select by connecting both. Maybe try cable select since it's already set to master?

mpc 4000 does not support cable select.

LMAO...Dead End.. I would think if something was wrong with the board where the ribbon cable connects there would be serious issues since that is the same board that the CPU appears to be on and that connects directly to the memory.

I certainly appreciate all of your input. I think I'm going to stop by the same computer store tomorrow and pick up aN IDE hard drive and see if I can get that 1 to work in the unit. at least that will give me a clue on what the issue actually is. again, I am very grateful for all the help so far. I will let everybody know tomorrow what happens with the different hard drive.

i had success with cf to ide converter.
improvised ssd

all i know is that my hde adapter has a jumper installed. if i remove it all kinds of sh!t gets weird.

how big cf card can you use?

mine was 32GB

So, I picked up a 60gb ide drive for $5 from my local computer store and it has been formatted and is working perfect. So far. Ordering a different adapter tomorrow to see if that is the issue. Jimfowler here has a jumper on his where mine does not, so even though both are listed as the same item on amazon there must be a variance in production.

Sent email to HDE also.

Will post results.

A little off topic, but to demonstrate how fun this week has been. My power adapters for two of my new mixers came today (a gemini beater and a vestax pmc05 pro) and I got to plug them in for the first time since I bought them off ebay.... both are lemons. Yay!

Seems like solid state drives might be more trouble than their worth..

Don't take my issue to be the full truth of the matter. Seems like quite a few cats have pulled it off and the whole reason it seems like a good idea (despite whether or not it helps speed) is the lack of a spinning disk under pads getting pounded.

New adapter came in the mail today with jumpers on it. Will be testing it out tonight.
