a couple questions about the 4000 b4 i buy it

waddup...long story short....i came across $1800 yesterday hustling some stuff (no not drugs) and have enough to get a used 4000 w the cd drive/hard drive/and 2??mb ram for exactly $1800 is this a good price?

also im graduating from a mpc60 w the 3.10 OS and i love the sequencer it feels like it was made for hip hop...hows the 4000 sequencer am i gonna love/hate it?all i do is hip hop and dont wanna spend so much if the sequencer is doo doo...ALL opinions appreciated thanks

You're simply gonna love it if you liked the sequencer on the 60. The MPC40000 feels maybe a bit less 'lazy' at times, but it's even tighter. The sampler part will take some time to learn.

Dunno about the price though, I got mine a lot cheaper. But that's in Sweden..

I paid mine 1850 euros with 2xx mb of ram, a 40gig HD, samples, CD-RW drive and the ADAT board and manual, cables and box too. He was used but still in garantuee. I bought him in Amsterdam, Holland.
Maybe yours is a bit expensive? Try lowering to 1600.

My first MPC was a 60 too. Let me say that the sequencer of the 4k is way better, sample engine too. Tho the pads of the 60 feel much better. These 4k's are also more plastic and will brake faster than the 60. ( the 60 looks like it can last for centuries ) But apart from that, I never looked back! And about the sound, well.. the 4k has a very, veryvery rich sound! Its amazing really. The 60 has a more gritty sound

Both 60 and 4k synced would be the best option off course.

And the 60 is tighter no doubt, dunno what Pus is saying there..

In what way is it "tighter" ? Tight might mean nice & swingy to you and totally robotic / mechanical to somebody else.

To be honest, I'm begining to get a bit tired of people just stating somebody else is wrong on *totally* subjective matters, without even explaining what they base their claims on.

*I* feel that at the end of patterns, the 60 does something to get in sync again with the next pattern, as if it had been behaving a bit slow. Hard to explain, because it's just a tiny tiny tendence as I hear it. That's what I meant with my "lazy"-comment. My 4000 certainly feels more linear from that aspect when I use it and listen to it.

I don't state this as any universal truth, as it is totally subjective. It's just as I see it. However, I have both and I won't ever sell any of them.

I mean it response tighter to everything I push..

i want to tag along w/ this 'before i buy' post. i've been going to Guitar Center playing around with a 4000 for about a week now. i feel pretty comfortable getting around on it but still can't wrap my mind around a few things; things i need to know before i throw down that kind of money. But the only feature i have to know about or atleast understand that it works is 16 levels of tuning.

i know the theme of 'read the manual' and once i commit to buying one, i'll live by the manual but this is really my only concern regarding the 4k at the moment.

Hmm... What OS is the MPC running at the Guitar Center. I believe that this wasn't put
in until a later OS update. Don't know which one for sure, but I think it was 1.45 or 1.50.

yeah, this was what i was thinking. i looked around in various and obvious locations for the 16 levels tune options and it wasn't to be found. again, when i pushed 16 levels the was no 'options', no screen or anything, just the little green light came on and bam velocity.

thanks for helping out a psuedo-newbie. (i hope to be rockin' w/ the 4k by xmas....we'll see)
