Tracking as a Plugin does not give me the benefit of the 3000 Out's. Maybe I'm missing something but the big selling point of the Ren to me were the 3000 flava outputs. And only 4 of those is not good enough I have 10 on the 4000 and I use all 10 connected to Pro Tools HD4 Rig. We could go around in circles but thats the main reason why the Ren doesn't cut it for me. Its just no replacement for the 4k in the Studio.

The Studio however is a cool thing to have next to 11" macbook air. Why not?

As a fellow 4k user we both know 4k doesn`t have the 3000k output either. But it is cool I saw your workaround tech some months back. Anyways enjoy your Studio I got the Ren cuz I wanted the qlink, surface of the Renaissence along with similar feel of a hardware unit. I work with maschine too but it`s workflow is this an adjustment. I`m back on my 4k until the update for Ren so I`m 4k for life just I still want to expand into software.

Agreed: 4k is here to stay no matter what :)

I have used a 3k for some time and nothing beats it, thats why i stated 10 outs would make Ren the bomb.

The 4k outs are really nice and thru DI and Preamp have enough character to make me hold on to this beast.

I see the motivation for the Ren and its just right not to be afraid of new Tech!!! All comes down to personal choices no rights or wrong here. We sure have more options than 2 years ago.

My Signal chain is 4k 10 Outs > 10 channel DI > 10 channels of Preamp, thats the old way of tracking MPC's

The Studio however is a cool thing to have next to 11" macbook air to put together ideas. Why not?

The MPC 4000 has balanced outputs right? Is there a significant benefit to using a DI box?

This it to bring the voltage down to Mic level, for routing through pre-amps (Mic in). Routing throughgh a mic pre amp in this way provides endless possibilities in terms of color, depth, girth.

Have you heard an MPC being tracked through a Neve 1073 pre? It's huge!

Got it. But naw, never even touched a Neve...and don't think I will be spending $3000-$4000 to hear it. Can I get away with a Vintech?

Oh drums drums drums. I thought I was the only one here who did this kinda stuff.
Because of the way my lab is set up, I don't track through the pre. I export the multitracks out, and in Pro Tools, send the tracks to 16 outs that will be summed in the Neve 8816 Summing mixer. Some of those tracks hit outboard pres or eq's before summing.
So instead of going from digital (mpc) to analog (running through outboard pres) back to digital (pro tools) back to analog (Neve summing mixer) back to digital (converted back to digital with an Apogee and sent back to pro tools).... I go from digital to analog to digital in the cleanest most efficient way possible for me.
