BEST WAY TO SAVE YOUR BEATS ON A MPC 2000XL

QUESTION-
WHEN WORKING ON A MPC 2000XL, AND YOU HAVE DRUMS LOADED ON THE PADS AND SOUNDS IN YOUR SEQUENCES, HOW DO YOU SAVE ALL YOUR WORK TOGETHER WITH THE TRACKS YOUV DONE AND THE DRUMS YOU USED? WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SAVE YOUR BEATS WITH THE MUSIC AND DRUMS SAVED TOGETHER SO THAT WHEN YOU LOAD THE DISC UP WITH YOUR TRACKS IT WILL PLAY WITH THE DRUMS YOU USED. I HAVE A ZIP DRIVE AS WELL. IS THIS POSSIBLE?? OR DO I NEED TO LOAD UP ONE DISC WITH THE DRUMS AND ONE DISK WITH THE TRACKS TO HEAR MY BEAT AS I HAVE BEEN DOING?

yah, you want to save

.APS and .ALL

I'm not sure if just saving the .ALL [all sequences and songs] will do the job, but I've always just saved both just to be extra sure that everything is saving...

yup you need to save both the .APS and the .ALL files. Make sure you name them so that you know they belong together, like newsongs1.ALL and newsounds1.APS or something like that. It's easier to look up old stuff when the files have similar names

Thanks for all the advice, but to be sure...
So saving my work APS. & ALL. will save my music as well as the drums I used all on the same file? Because when i have done that nothing happens. I would need to load my disc with the drums and then when i hit play on the XL it will play with drums...
Anyone else?

the mpc is 2 diff machines in one

a sequncer which needs its own files. (.all)

and a sampler which needs its own files (.aps)

a sequncer is what is recordin all the performance data and the seqs and songs. Its when u hear the click and tap pads. thats what the sequncer is recording

a sampler is where the sounds are kept. Also the programs and there settings.

the sequncer tells the sampler to say play ex. note 37 for duration of 58 at 82 velocity

the sampler is playin that with say a little attack and decay with a filter


2 diff files for 2 diff features.



oh and this is all covered in the manual chief.

to make sure on your zip create a folder for all your songs like HIPHOP FLDR OR WHAT EVER then in side that folder create another folder with the name of your song then when you save you save evrything :
ALL SEQUENCE AND SOUNDS
APS
MIDI
NEWPGM
thatway when you load evrything you go down your list in the file it's all in order, remeber to create a mian folder so you can put sub folders init this gives you much more space to save what evr you want , build a few on your main levelthen go into your folders and make sub folders, in sub folders you can put alot of folders in side as well.

All of this "how to save" stuff is in the xl manual also for future reference.
It also explains the different types of files to save/load.

I never save .aps or .all, I've always done it by saving just the .prg and .mid, dunno why just habit but it works for me.

For all those who are thinking "why doesnt he read the manual? it's all in there". Yes, i know. But if your a newbie, and not really familiar with terms and stuff like that, and dont have anyone around to break these things down, it's like reading chinese! So i thought i would ask a question and get more of a simplified answer. So i thank you all for your help and advice.
I just thought there would be a way save it once all on the same disc. That way you can load up hit play and have your beat playing in a matter of seconds. I thought that was possible....

File types:

aps - all programs and sounds
all - all sequences and mixer settings
wav - if you don't know this just give up
snd - same here

Paulio uses the mid which also works well. JV, whatever
works for you then that's what you do.

true, but also remember to create a new directory for each beat.....that is, make a folder for each beat....then just do save all inside that folder; do this just incase you create two sounds with the same name,you dont accedential overwrite one of them.

I didn't know you could create folders on zip disks using the mpc.
I know you can use partitions, is this what you mean?

^^ u can only do it on a 2kxl not the 2k sorry,
but yeah you open your main folder then hit the orange key to open the window then hit new folder then name it ,close the window and load your new folder .
